Starmer to resign 15:12 - May 9 with 10489 viewsGlasgowBlue

If he's issued an FPN*.

Very clever and puts the ball back into Johnson's court.

*Durham Police have already said that they do not issue FPN's retrospectively, so he won't need to resign even of found guilty of breaking the lockdown rules.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Not so sure, it just looks like he's pulled a lawyer trick and dove through a loop hole. See what the PoPo say but if he's found in breach fine or no fine isn't going to make a difference.

If anyone else were in his place they would have made same song and dance about Boris so you can't blame them but having gone on about it so much Durhamgate was always going to make them look silly esp after the Raynor denials which let's face it they know full we she was there.... He's might save his job with his loophole statement but they shadow of lawyer BS won't do him any favours.

He's got form to hasn't he, when he hit that cyclist

I would imagine every Daily Mail journalist is trawling through everything Starmer said about Durham Police finding Cummings technically in breath of the law but not issuing him with a fine.

I'm just imagining all the comments that would be made about Johnson being "slippery" if the roles were reversed, rather than praising him for being "very clever".

Frankly I think it’s all a bit crazy.

In the great scheme of things I don’t think this is really a resigning matter for Boris, Starmer or Sunak. They may have bent the rules a bit but they are technically all working with work colleagues — whilst trying to run the country during an epidemic or trying to be a formidable opposition.

Some people think Downing St is just where the PM and Chancellor live with a couple of big board rooms whereas it has 100’s of offices with No 10 probably having 100 on it’s own.

At this very time we still very much have the existence of a pandemic, a cost of living meltdown, a war in Ukraine which could potentially go nuclear and all we and journalists are talking about is birthday cakes and a bottle of beer. When Boris was in India doing things that Prime Ministers do, all the UK journalists questions were about cake, fast forward to yesterday and after a crucial load of local elections, all journalists were talking to Starmer about was a bottle of beer.

It’s absolutely off the scale, all other countries must think we are absolutely nuts.

Good strategy to do this. There are only 2 outcomes and they both make Johnson look silly

1) KS receives a FPN and resigns, showing he has the integrity to fall on his sword when Johnson didn't.

2) KS doesn't receive a FPN and it's reinforced that he followed the rules when Johnson didn't.

I genuinely dont think it has anything to do with strategy and being clever.

It may be (gasp) that its a straightforward matter of integrity and he genuinely believes that is important.

It's ABSOLUTELY a resining matter. They've been convicted of a criminal offence.
Whilst people were dying, whilst people's relatives were dying, whilst healthcare staff placing their lives at risk, whilst people's businesses were going to the wall, whilst everyone's mental health was suffering they were pissing it up, breaking the very rules they made.

I think that is a v balanced view.

There is so little coming together in politics or journalism anymore. Each side is convinced that's its saving the public from the other to make any attempt at finding any common ground

I'm not saying you should do anything.

I am saying elected officials should be capable of finding some common ground and working together on common sense issues, it used to happen far more often .

But great job of illustrating exactly the kind of polarising online statement that is helping to drive a wedge through western society, USA has it on Steroids right now (if Watergate happened today I'm not sure many Republicans would vote for impeachment, as shown during Trumps) France are getting there too, fewer and fewer people even try to see anyone else's point anymore. No one is saying we have to all like each other, nor that we cant have our own opinions but a bit of pragmatism can help every now and then

What is a resigning matter is lying to Parliament

The bloated bullshtter does it as a matter of course. Both inside and outside of Parliament

However with regard to this matter, he has lied by denying the parties happened, then denied they were parties, followed by denying he attended, then claimed although he was there he did not know they were parties, and anyway he was only there briefly, or something ......wiffle waffle .. etc

Starmer being at a campaign meeting, with others there for the same purpose, is NOT similar to gutbucket sending out invites to 15 (or more) drinking sessions.

Righties can bleat all they like about the numerous parties, but it is on record that the fat fibber mislead Parliament. There lies the offence.

He should go before he is eventually winched out of number 10 with a block and tackle

And given how the NI protocol is in the news, here he is at another drinking session (pssed) lying through his teeth about the Irish border checks

This is a good summary.

Starmer is facing a trumped-up charge on the face of it. But ... that’s his own fault for almost completely ignoring policies and focusing on “honesty and integrity”.

And I agree that he’s got away scotfree with his political dishonesty which should have cracked his veneer as a trustworthy alternative. I particularly agree with the reason why he got away with it too.

You prove Johnson sent out invites personally and I for one will believe you. However what is clear is your continued use of abuse about peoples weight and appearance. I will also ask you again to remove an ageist comment you made last week.
You clearly think you have a moral duty to wind people up on this forum and thats fine but when you continue to keep using ageist and fat shaming as a tool you cross the line. Any moderator monitoring this forum would think the same, refrain from that language or keep your views to yourself, it is hate fuelled, and I think you know it as you are testing boundaries.

His continued "fat shaming" is playing the man not the ball, and detracts from the points made. It is also utterly banal.

However, teh concept of "fat shaming" is objectionable. the vast majority have a chocie about their weight. Its not a characteristic like race or gender and we really shouldnt protect it like one.

So I see the Tory tactics after the latest development appear to be

- Accuse Starmer of putting pressure on the police to find him innocent. This has already been mooted by some that work for the Daily Mail, which is laughable considering they've been openly pressuring the police themselves for a fortnight

- State that Starmer is being slippery because he might be guilty without being fined and he should resign if they imply he might have done something unwise but not enough to result in a fine.

The second one is pathetic, and basically implies that as well as him either being innocent or guilty, there is a third option which is basically 'got off' which is a get out of jail card for the right wing press. Of course, this new 'got off' status was never one which was talked about with Boris, I wonder why.

Do you really want to go down the route for being an apologist for our lying PM? Who's 'offended' on enough times for any previous PM to have resigned several times over?

You get a lot of unjustified stick on here for holding to your views, but when you excuse Johnson's lying I'm starting to think maybe the criticism is justified after all. Given your support for Corbyn you should be able to see straight through the smear campaign at play here and ignore it, not join in. If you don't agree agree with Starmer's viewpoint, that's fine and part of politics, but don't conflate a differences of political opinion with flagrant law breaking and lying in Parliament. The two things aren't in any way related.

Starmer to resign on 22:22 - May 9 with 971 viewsTrequartista

Starmer is saying he is absolutely clear he has not broken rules, yet his pledge to resign only covers if he receives a fine. This leaves a quite plausible outcome where he is found to have broken the rules but is not fined because, as you say, they won't issue if enough time has passed.

So where would that leave him? Back in the same sticky situation i would think.

Don't be silly.

No one is shaming people's weight. Just one person is receiving insults.

There's a handful on here who have run out of excuses for Johnson so have grabbed onto this with all their might because that's all they seemingly have left.

Have a shot at explaining how this person is still running our country and why, if you still believe it, he is the right man for the job.

Looking for Harry's comments to leap on is a bit easy really and is easily ignored. Stick him on ignore.

Let's focus on the state of things and what can be done to put that right before worrying about a complete stranger insulting our ridiculous, piss-taking politicians in power.
