Simon Case has been chosen by Boris to carry the can once Sue Gray published her report

The headline says that “ Boris Johnson to sacrifice top official over Partygate to save himself”

But the content reports that “Sue Gray will, according to several sources, lay particular blame on Case, the UK’s most senior civil servant” and “Senior officials are braced for Case to be so heavily criticised that he will have to offer his resignation, or be sacked by Johnson”.

So it’s Sue Grey that is pointing the finger at Case. Yes?

This doesn’t excuse Johnson’s behaviour but your thread title, once again, and the Guardian headline is very misleading.

Edit. Odd downvote. Perhaps some people prefer misleading headlines and thread titles to the facts.

Past the point of caring.

If the majority want to impose misery on themselves they're more than welcome to it.

Won't affect me.

So the man who was fined and broke the law, fires the man who didn’t.

“One senior Whitehall figure who has seen sections of the report said it could also prove more damaging for Johnson than the fine he was given in April for attending his own birthday party, because it will make clear the PM’s involvement in several other events which may have breached rules, but for which he was not fined”

A senior civil servant has also said Johnson will be heavily criticised too. Case is an easier target for Gray of course, being a civil servant herself.

Johnson’s whole career is scapegoating when things go wrong. This is just another chapter.

Good job Johnson had that meeting with Sue Gray a few days ago to get the heads up.

Yes. Johnson should resign. No ifs and no buts. But Case is equally to blame. He’s no scapegoat. Sue Grey makes that perfectly clear.

scapegoat
/ˈskeɪpɡəʊt/
Learn to pronounce
noun
noun: scapegoat; plural noun: scapegoats
1.
a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency.

He’s not being blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others. He’s being blamed for his own wrong doings.

Although I understand that being a civil servant yourself, you would be keen to protect your own. Is it true that the majority of the 100+ fines issued went to civil servants?

"Is it true that the majority of the 100+ fines issued went to civil servants?

Perhaps because the majority of those working at No.10 are civil servants

Otherwise. this is worth a read

"“it is of paramount importance that ministers give accurate and truthful information to Parliament, correcting any inadvertent error at the earliest opportunity”. "...... it may become plain that the Prime Minister did not correct his earlier assertions"

1. Johnson has plenty of previous in throwing others under a bus.
2. Johnson reportedly met Sue Gray to discuss the report some time ago.

Pardon my cynicism, but I wouldn't be shocked if a deal were struck re report contents.

Why not stop there? No-one cares about civil servants, but you post lots of guff about them. Why?

That's reasonably poor from the Guardian. They say he's both a scapegoat and expected to be enormously at fault in the report.

The issue is the PM has no ethics and holds his direct reports to different standards than he holds himself.

Not sure why the article doesn't just say that.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Here we go again Tory boy.

There’s only 1 Prime Minister & 400 plus civil servants working in Downing Street. If 126 fines are issued it’s only reasonable to all but you that the vast majority would be issued to those civil servants.

The fact that this partying culture started on Johnson’s watch is clearly the problem.

Again, it’s spectacularly missing the point. People are posting as if Case is sone poor innocent that Johnson is going to throw under the bus.

Quite the opposite. From the leaked Snippets from Sue Grey, Case was involved in more parties than Wayne Lineker.

Case May have more integrity than Johnson and resign when Sue Grey reports. He may be sacked by Johnson so it appears he is acting tough.

But he ain’t no scapegoat as EG’s thread title portrays him.

You know as well as anyone else that what Johnson always does is get people under him who have similar values as himself as regards following rules and conventions - so he effectively makes them complicit in what he does - and enables a culture to exist in which those people often take the lead in organising activities like partygate.

I don't really see people lionising Case here, just citing another example of Johnson playing the wronged martyr.....

Dominic Cummings has been quiet for a while so expect him to leak more revelations to the press soon but no matter what he, Sue Gray or anyone else says, Boris won’t resign or be pushed.

Let’s hope the Labour Party have the same success here as they did in Australia recently as that’s the only way Boris is going anywhere.

You'd never catch Worzel or his chums stooping so low as to mis-play headlines, would you? Aren't we so richly blessed as a nation to have such a fine, upstanding leader as the current incumbent of No 10, a man who's constant companions are Fidelity and Integrity (and occasionally their younger sister Chastity ... or indeed anyone else having difficulty with the functional effectiveness of their knicker elastic)

Glassers has a great habit of posts ageing like gone off milk. Never learns.

Also has a great habit of saying “I agree but” followed by 6 paragraphs of disingenuous whatteraboutery in contradiction of that agreement which serves to defend the position of corrupt power, regressive policies, and in some cases even derail civil rights discussion in favour of racists.

The only uppies he gets now are literally the lowest common denominator posters who seem intent on PWNING THE LEFT.

Was never a huge fan but you’d hope the quality of output would move in line with what one can see happening out their own front door.
