Is there another ground like Portman Rd 08:04 - Jun 2 with 5708 viewsonceablue

5/10 min walk from Town centre
5/10 walk from train station/bus stations
Lots of Pubs within 5/10 mins walk as below

Curve
Swan
Black horse
Degeros
Thomas Wolsey
Falcon
Plough
Cricketers
Arcade

Lots of eateries Cardinal park etc

I seriously don’t think there is a better situated ground in the Country

We are very spoilt and only realise this when at away games

Is there a better ground in this respect

If there is please tell me

I would add, Huddersfield, SheffU, Chelsea, Arsenal, Wolves, Peterborough, Leyton Orient, Brentford (new ground), Sunderland, Blackpool, Southampton, Hartlepool... Add 5 mins to your walk, and Derby is unbeatable.

Then there are the wastelands that are MKD, Reading, Harrogate, Forest Green, Stoke, Manure, Liverpool etc etc etc...

You'll like Exeter, then. Nice little stadium, mahoosive car park nearby with everything you could ask for nearby.

A depressing 10-minute walk. A bit of a dive that half of town

Newcastle
Middlesbrough
Watford
Cardiff

Cardiff’s too far out to meet the criteria. A good 25 mins walk from the centre and there’s not a lot around it.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Watford?
Not really near a station & no decent pubs in the vicinity.

It’s got 2 stations and a tube station all with 15 mins walk. I’d say it’s very much similar to ours in location and that same older style town centre type (and a bit in style with the stands having been developed multiple times and at different times).

As a kid I went to Hartlepool once (no idea why) and I seem to remember the ground being very close to its town centre - it was a long time ago so could be wrong.

Also, isn’t Peterborough’s ground next to the train station and city centre as well???

Watford is superb because if you are taken ill you are right next to West Herts Hospital.

or lincoln city with the police cells right next door town centre and railway station minutes away

forensic experts say footers and spruces fingerprints were not found at the scene after the weekends rows

In terms of train stations, there's quite a few ahead of Ipswich. Can't comment on the quality of the pubs in some of these places...

One glaring issue with that link, they've put Coventry at 185m, but neglected to mention that the railway station is closed on all matchdays for ironic reason that a train station built for a stadium will be used too much when the stadium is used.

You could go in the home end like I did last time we sold out. I got stuck right behind a pillar though in a packed stand and couldn’t move, so wouldn’t recommend!

Not having been to Vicarage Road for thirty years, I have to ask:

Do the away fans still have to go yomping through allotments to reach the ground?

The ground is about 10 minutes from the station. City centre is even closer with plenty of decent places to eat and drink. So Peterborough is a good call as a bonus for me it is an away day that is two stops away on the train.

No. Away fans are in the other end these days.

Erm, I've lived in London for about 15 years.

Las time my friends & I went to a pub in Hammersmith & took a bus to the game. Yes, the pubs around QPR are awful.

Fair point about the station access, but the pubs near Watford are unrelentingly awful.

Was that Belushi's? Fcking atrocious place.

I spent a pointless 45 minutes trying to get into various pubs on Uxbridge Rd. Ended up with a load of cans in a park near the ground. QPR should be a much better away-day than it actually is.

The OB are always worried at QPR and prevent boozing whenever possible.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
