Still grovel and aspire to the self imposed elite? They really play their role in the archaic British class system and help promote the narrative of trickle down economics. The concept of royalty really is absurd.
Sorry for the random morning musings.

Indeed. And while they say, "The 70 years have seen a steady improvement in living standards for the majority of honest, hard working, working class people, so why change things?" - I don't see the correlation. What has the Queen done to improve living standards?!
I am not saying why I support the monarchy, because I make it clear that I don't. I am giving reasons why the majority of "honest, hard working, working class" people support the monarchy.
Lots of homes still had outside toilets at the beginning of the Queen's reign. The village my Dad was born in didn't get piped water until the early 50s. People certainly didn't have foreign holidays or a car or a television. And very fee people owned their own home or even had the prospect of it.
So for those in their 60s and 70s who either remember what things were like in the early 50s or had it drummed I to them as they grew up that "they had never had it so good", there is a real awareness of an improvement for many.
The Queen has reigned over this period of improvement for "honest, hard working, working class" people. Objectively she has had very little to do with it. But she is the figurehead of a nation, and symbolises it in many ways, so why would people who see improvement want revolution?
I made the point that now inequality is growing and more people are experiencing a decline in living standards this attitude might change (particularly if a very popular Queen is replaced by her much less popular son.)

You seem to think abolishing the monarchy will improve living standards for those in greatest need the floor is yours elaborate on how this will be achieved and how this will be beneficial .

I get all the improvements in 70 years - I'm just asking what the Queen's had to do with it. If people love the improvements and attribute them to her as the figurehead then it rather backs up my point about brainwashing.
To be clear, I don't want a revolution and haven't asked for one. You can point at the collective madness without wanting an uprising. There is some middle ground between "love the Queen" and "revolution, off with their heads"!
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Where have I remotely suggested abolishing the monarchy or that abolishing it would raise living standards?!

You mentioned what has she done to improve living standards, I replied what had she done to lower them, you replied “what”
It's a daft question. What has she done to raise them is valid? Surely it's natural progress unless she spent the early part of her reign demanding concessions for the poorest?
Asking what she's done to lower them as an answer to what she's done to increase them is just daft.
One of her main positives is that she's political neutral apparently so how is she responsible?
To be clear, I don't care about the answer either way. More just a point of order.

It’s not daft at all.

not royalty related, but i haven't been able to buy a guardian / observer for the last 2 days. why's that? i hear you ask. it's cos all the london 2nd home owners have come out to the coast for the bank holiday weekend. oh the irony.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I was replying to someone who said, "The 70 years have seen a steady improvement in living standards for the majority of honest, hard working, working class people, so why change things?"
I said I don't see the correlation. "What has the Queen done to improve living standards?!"
If someone's suggesting a link I want some evidence.
How that remotely means I'm suggesting she's lowered them only you know.

You should work for the Daily Mail mate.
No one has said they hate the queen.
Not everyone had the time off and even if they did, our taxes have more than paid for the few meagre days off we've had recently due to them.
No one is angry some people didn't get the choice to have the day off. I merely questioned why the big stores always put profit over people and open the absolute maximum hours they can. I have the same rant every Christmas when the likes of Tesco Express stay open until 11pm on Christmas Eve and then open up again 6am Boxing Day. It's something I despise. I now work from home so i'm not affected, but if I can avoid going in a shop where the company are exploiting their staff to squeeze out an extra few quid then I will.
i assume you've used the internet over last few days?
if so did you consider the communications provider workers that would have been in work to ensure that service was working and available to you? or because they arent tesco workers dont they hit the radar?
I like the queen but not the rest of the royals. If I could, I'd like to vote for the next one in some sort of semi frequent vote on potential replacements. In this bizarre arrangement there should also be some basic checks and balances to ensure this queen that people had selected didn't do anything extraordinarily erratic. Perhaps a chamber or two of elected officials for rigour.
Sorry just reread the above and concluded it's utter madness. Let's continue with whoever happens to be there by birthright but doesn't actually have any enforceable power or duties through fear that they will ruin the nation and commonwealth. At least we have then ruled out centuries of generational tyranny.

By that logic a 100 year old oak tree in Hounslow has helped raise living standards.
