I seem to recall a party leader in 2016 actually losing a vote of confidence, with 80% of his MP’s having no faith in him, and going on to cost the Tories their majority less than a year later. Although this could be a long slow death for Johnson if their is a steady drip of scandal. Of course in the good old days the men in great suits would be paying Johnson a visit tonight to tell him the game is up. [Post edited 6 Jun 2022 21:52]

"if their is a steady drip of scandal."? How would you describe the last however long since Cummings decided to turn on him and the Met were forced to investigate him? What would make you think that is going to stop?

I’d describe it as a steady drip of scandal. It needs to continue. But not partygate. There will be other skeletons in the closet.

For a start the fact he apparently said in his address to MPs today, in regards partygate, I would do it all again. That surely is going to be used against him for the foreseeable

Makes no odds, most of the pro votes were on the payroll, even if they lose the next two by elections they would have still voted for Boris. He's toast, a dead man walking, the party will be paralysed by this.

211 in favour, 148 against on 21:41 - Jun 6 by Oldsmoker | This vote of confidence(VOC) has solved nothing. It's drawn the battle lines, that's all. For Bozo this VOC should put an end to all plotting and we should get behind him and help him solve the problems that face the nation. For everyone else, solving the nations problems is not going to save their seats at the next GE so they will continue to plot. |

I’m not sure if this is a joke either.

You'll get no money from me you capitalist pig-dog. When I rule this country, no voting will take place because all policy decisions will be made in committees for the glory of the Democratic Socialist Republic of OldSmoker. Edit: I've almost finished the 2nd bottle of wine. Typing is hard and I think the backspace key is now hot-to-touch. [Post edited 6 Jun 2022 22:12]

He continues to be enabled by that party. The party is corrupt and unfit for Government. It is not just Johnson. Don't be fooled into thinking that is on Johnson. It is on the Conservative Party. |
How many of those 211 are in the cabinet or junior ministers? Those you can understand are just in it for self preservation. Add all those up and we get close to 50/50. Do other 50% genuinely think he is fit for office?

Not a joke. Let me try to clarify what I said. BJ is saying "Vote over - I won. 'Let it go' and forget it ever happened." The 148 are saying "No way - it's never over".

What's remarkable is *no abstentions*. Those backing him must have been seriously worried; those wanting him out absolutely desperate. I doubt waiting 3 weeks would have made any difference - they all know already that they're in for a serious caning.

It's much worse than 50:50. There are a lot of junior ministerial positions, aides etc. Think it's more like 80:20 once you take out the "payroll" vote.

He is stuffed. He can't placate many by offering a tasty ministerial position without dropping a reluctant supporter. You would imagine the likes of Mordaunt and Coffey would get very vocal very quickly if they are moved on.
