Summer beers… 20:20 - Jun 20 with 2786 viewshoppy

It’s a nice warm day, you’ve not long got home, enjoying listening to some decent music - you reach for a cool beer from the fridge, and find it going down very pleasingly, (for a 5.5%)…

What is it you’ve gone for?

Currently making short work of a St Austell Proper Job here. Lovely stuff. Wondering what other recommendations there might be.

That's a superb beer, chilled down it's amazing. Just be careful, that 5.5% creeps up on you.

Another gorgeous beer (again strong) is Jaipur by Thornbridge. Highly recommended

Tribute (same brewery?) is equally pleasant.

Both have the added benefit of ready-made schoolboy humour when ordering at the bar ...

You're a day early.

Summer starts tomorrow at 04.30 at the UK's most easterly town.

Days like today make me wish I wasn't in Sheffield and could tuck into a tasty pint of Earl Soham Vic. That being said spent last week subsisting on Kolsch which in sunny Koln went down a treat.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

I had a couple of nice brews from a Flavourly box set whilst providing the aforementioned decent music....

A Canute Kveik English pale from Firebrand Brewing, and a Haze Faze hazy pale from Beatniks Republic.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I always keep it simple and crack open a Jupiler. Not the strongest Belgian beer but that's not necessarily a bad thing!

The only thing you'd get in lowestoft would be a disease not found these days in the civilised world.

Korea would be my favourite lager. Proper Job is one of the best ales too, I’d move to St Austell if it wasn’t a s-hole!

I'm cutting down, and so when I want a beer mid-week, I have a Freedam. It's a 0%, gluten free lager from Estrella (blue can, available in Sainsburys). I really like it.

Proper job is indeed a lovely drop, thought it was 4.5% unless they have upt the ante?

Anyone tried the new Guinness coffee beer, I picked up a four pack on an introductory offer and was very impressed and their 0% Guinness is probably the best beer I tried compared to its alcoholic equivalent

Cider...

Another one for cider.

Not been able to stomach lager for a few years now and although I was enjoying beer, namely Ghost Ship and the odd other, apparently anything I like is bad for triggering gout attacks and nobody wants those. Believe me.

Cider it is, and the odd glass of wine.

I think cask is 4.5%, bottled is 5.5%.

Like Adnams Broadside, it's a different brew in a bottle.

Paulaner Munchen Hells or Peroni Gran Riserva (warning, it is 6.6%, very smooth and slips down very nicely).

For ale Chadlington brewery Oxford Blonde or Oxford Blue, or Bowman ales Lovely Jubbly.

Definitely says 5.5% on the bottle. I moved on to a can of ‘Memphis Blud’, a 6.5% grapefruit infused IPA from Aldi, and again, from the fridge. I’m not sure who brews it for them, but it’s quite a nice drop too.

Depending on mood...

Stour Valley Gold from Nethergate just outside Long Melford

Almost anything by Roughacre in Clare

Supermarket Ale wise it'll be Proper Job or Ghost Ship.

Lager I normally end up with Aldi's Rheinbacher.

Korev is amazing, there’s only a couple of supermarkets up this way that stock it though.

Tribute is also nice, along with Doom Bar…. The Cornish know how to make a decent beer.
