KVY perhaps for Leigh is another thought. Talk to me Blue Army, talk to me

You're a bundle of joy aren't you. Chill out dude.

No I want us to play two central midfielders who compliment us.. ball strikes me as too similar to Morsy, albeit our captain has been playing more advanced. You need an enforcer ball winner, and a distributor

I hear ya, but I think Ball Morsy will strike fear in opposition, which ultimately in League 1 might be more effective.

Is this is our strongest 11 currently? on 22:00 - Jul 14 by Portman_Pie | I’m personally utterly baffled as to why anyone who has watched us for the last 4 seasons would pick Kaydon Jackson as a first team player in our strongest 11…..?! Maybe I’m not buoyed by the 3 reasonable games he played this season to get to the stage of self defecating over 3 out of about 70 games…? This front line strikes me as a badly assembled Paul Hirt’s line up at present, with no goals in it. |
Can you give any clarification of the 'self defecating' bit? I don't understand it, but then I think you might be making some sort of witty comment. I suspect I may be only half right?

If you have learned anything from seeing how McKenna uses players, then your point becomes irrelevant. Players are selected for the opposition to play on their weaknesses. Jackson has commented on how all the previous managers here were going on about his weaknesses, not his strengths, but McKenna worked it out straight away. Jackson's "weakness" is his finishing. He isn't in all likelihood going score 25 goals himself. But he has absolutely blistering pace. Played as a no. 10 (left or right) he can outpace any fullback in League 1 (and probably most in the 2 divisions above). That is a helluva strength to have. McKenna was getting balls played behind the fullbacks along the ground for Jackson to run on to. It's exciting to watch, and forces the opposition to play really deep. Jackson will probably get into double figures himself, but the main strength of this is to get down the flank and get the assists for the centre forward(s) to bang in.

Spot on and a good reminder ref McK and looking at the oppositions weaknesses rather than the player's strengths

Jackson looks best when he runs from in to out though, I'm not sure his game suits starting wider.

I see 3 in midfield (Ball, Evans, Morsy) with one pushed forward (or two!) and two up top... Lap and Chappers. Basing it on nothing though.....

Is this is our strongest 11 currently? on 09:08 - Jul 15 with 601 views | C_HealyIsAPleasure | Ball has clearly been signed to start so him instead of Evans, otherwise that but with Aluko and John-Jules fitting into the front 3 rotation, probably mainly the former but JJ may surprise We still need a LB as suspect Leigh was signed for depth and at least one more up top, as it’s difficult to see where we’re suddenly going to score 20-odd more goals from at the moment unless Ladapo has a season like he’s never had before

Is this is our strongest 11 currently? on 20:57 - Jul 14 by Stu_boy | Id like to see ball in place of evans as ball is very good at doing the simple stuff and protecting the backline. In turn that will allow morsy to be more box to box |
I think Ball will be the main man alongside Morsy. Allows Morsy to push that much further forward and to allow us to attack teams, but also allows us to be a little more defensive if needed. Evans is one of those we bring on when it's not going to plan and we need more than a safer patient ball from Ball and need Evans to move it quickly from side to side and stretch teams and open them up that little bit more.
Is this is our strongest 11 currently? on 09:39 - Jul 15 with 561 views | ibbleobble | Ball for Evans and, yes. It doesn’t fill me with confidence to be honest. I think McKenna has been poor in the transfer market all in and the signings haven’t given me the confidence that he’s done what needs to remedy the dearth of attacking threat in the last 10 games of last season.
Is this is our strongest 11 currently? on 09:54 - Jul 15 with 546 views | clive_baker | If you're playing devils advocate, you might ask if its any stronger than last season. Leigh is a bit of an unknown quantity, and Evans struggled with injury but he's one of those players who gets better the longer he's out of a side. He had some shockers last season. Jackson who knows, but I wouldn't have had him starting in this role 12 months ago. Ladapo should score goals, but again how he gels who knows. Chaplin for me has to start week in, week out. He was far too heavilty rotated last season and uneccesarily at times. There was one spell where he was looking dangerous and scoring goals, before being inexplicably left out and rotated out of form. He could score close to 20 IMO, he's our MVP right now. Personally I would have Aluko in there all day long, he's consistently delivered in a Town shirt and oozes qualty. Probably for Jackson at this juncture. And Ball gets the nod over Evans for me. We're a couple of heads short of me getting too excited, but if we add 1 or 2 of Davis, Hirst and Celina in the next week or 2 then it's a different kettle of fish altogether.

He's had one window where he's signed Ball, Ladap, JJ and Leigh? You can't possibly aim any transfers at his door from when he came in, he simply didn't have the time to do anything meaningful other than percieved quick fixes then see how it pans out. This is his first ever window as a manger really, cut the guy some slack and remember managers don't always get their first choices.

January is a window. It’s a bad window but it’s a window. What he signed in Bakinson and Thompson were underwhelming and poor. In my opinion, he’s signed solid if unspectacular, experience this summer. None of which light up the imagination.

Is this is our strongest 11 currently? on 22:03 - Jul 14 by Nthsuffolkblue | Aluko didn't seem especially unhappy last season. Ball will probably play. It is up to McKenna to get the best out of the squad and keep them happy. |
The ability to make 5 subs per game should help keep players more involved and they will almost always be midfield / attacking changes. The keeper and back three are rarely substituted unless they get injured.

Is this is our strongest 11 currently? on 12:30 - Jul 15 with 451 views | Bluroo | If we're gonna be regularly playing a system with 2 number 10's, to press and create, I think we're well light in that position. Unlikely we'd get more than 20 high energy performances out of Aluko through the season due to age and Jackson/Edwards play a more wide/defence stretching role I presume. Therefore if Chaplin gets injured, we'd be screwed. So whereas there's been a lot of talk about needing Celina, I reckon we need Celina plus another one.
Is this is our strongest 11 currently? on 22:27 - Jul 15 with 393 views | BigCommon | I'd have Ball in for Evans.. And Aluko in for Jackson, with that formation.. Wouldn't bother me if Evans started though.. And wouldn't bother me if Jackson started ahead of Ladapo.. With 5 available substitutions, they would all get minutes at some point, imo.. The 5 subs thing, begs the question, for me... Is a teams "finishing eleven" as important, or even more important than their starting eleven?.. Squad depth will be massive this season..
