After 3 years without more than a 2 day trip to England, today finally we sail from Hook of Holland to Harwich (postponed 4 times!) After such a long time without being able to visit I am actually proper excited!
Tomorrow morning drive from Harwich to Penzance for a week, a few days London and then a week in Essex with family / friends.
Icing on the cake will, hopefully, be getting tickets on Monday for the Bolton game

Penzance old town has some lovely little pubs.
Stayed there this time last year and caught a bus to Marazion for the day to trip over to St Michael’s Mount, a bit of a must do. Try go when the tides are down and you can walk across. Had dinner in the Godolphin Hotel which is well set with a view of the mount and then walked back to Penzance at sunset. Can recommend that. |  | | |

Do the walk from Pendeen lighthouse, after 10 mind or so you can get down to a cove of beach that yoh can't access any other way by land.

Some of these are further afield than Penzance but definitely worth travelling for or seeking out if you're nearby:
Lizard Point - the most Southerly point in UK, with many nice walks and much more naturally beautiful than Lands End, which unfortunately was bought and commercialised to the extent that the famous signpost is owned by a local photography company and you're expected to pay for a photo.
Nanjizal beach - secluded beach, beatiful views and many caves etc to explore. Always watch out for the tide.
Mousehole is a pretty little village to explore, near Penzance - the Rock pool cafe is a nice spot to stop. Includes a rock pool below where kids can paddle and look for any creatures washed up by the waves.
Trevaylor Woods - they belong in a fairytale and remain somewhat less known. Whilst the beaches swarm with sunburnt brits then head here for some quiet, whereby you can wander in the shade, paddle in the stream or play with some of the rope swings. Only needs an hour or two, but could stay longer.
St Ives - Worth a day trip.
The Hidden Hut - fantastic beach hut cafe, basically with a private beach in front. Do get there early as they can run out of options. I wish it was more of a secret so I could keep it to myself. Quite far, so maybe if passing by.
Fowey (Foy) - one of the nicest towns on the south coast. A bit far from Penzance but I would encourage a stop on your way through if you wish to break up a journey etc.

My view on The Lizard.... go anywhere on the LIzard, without bothering with Lizard village/point, which is a bit of a dump. Coastal path is glorious down the west side, Kynance cove is stunning, Cadgwith Cove is a beautiful fishing village - trad folk singing on friday evening is worth going to Cadgwith Cove inn for ( just get a pint, food is not brilliant). Coverack is nice, has a good windsurf school if you're looking for activities, also hire paddleboards etc...
Caveat to all of this, is that I usually go to Cornwall in september when its not as busy. Some of these places are proper tourist honeypots ( Kynance, Minack, Porthcurno etc) ... sometimes its worth going off track just to not be in the crowds. | |

Definitely St Michael's Mount, minack theatre, as previously mentioned,f you do go to the lizard, combine that by having Lunch at Kynance cove, probably the most beautiful cove in Cornwall. Bit of a trek when parking at the top, but without doubt in my opinion the most stunning setting you'll see on your travels, water is cold but refreshing. | | | |

If you’re looking to have food out the Wharfside Meadery and Sea Palace Chinese are really nice, and they’re opposite each other. Seaview is the best takeaway chippy.
I’d definitely try and get to St Ives at some point. It won’t be as busy as usual because the schools haven’t broken up yet, but I’d still aim for a weekday. Porthgwiddan is my favourite of the 4 beaches to swim.
Edit: The best pub in Penzance is the Bath Inn, it has a really nice beer garden. The Lugger on the prom is expensive but often has live music and a good view.

Mousehole is one of my favourite little villages close to Penzance.
For coastal walks, I really like stretch of coast north of Cape Cornwall up to Botallack and Levant mines. Beautiful scenery and interesting industrial heritage. It's probably my favourite stretch of coastline in England. |  |
