First time I’ve seen £4m banded about, most people seem to think 1.5 - 2? I’d be very surprised if it was the fee, and more surprised if we paid it.

So do we pay the £4m that the foxes want for George Hirst? on 14:51 - Aug 14 with 2284 views | Nthsuffolkblue | £4M is fine as long as it is £0 up front, with fees on promotion to the Championship and to the Prem based on appearances and that is the maximum it comes to should he play 40+ matches in each promotion season. There is no way this (or any other club) at present is going to gamble that sort of money on one player in this league. It is about bringing the right player in but there will be a number of possible options and many of them a lot cheaper than that.

Was Morsy the last player we signed who had been speculated about for long beforehand? Most signings this window appear to have been virtually completed before we know anything of them.

Was told about the overall fee from someone I know at Leicester on their staff and also an agent at KIN. Leicester want a v big fee and sell on, not saying that is what we will end up paying but he’s going to be very expensive if we sign him. Lack of available strikers forcing up prices. Championship clubs are defo interested as well but they can’t compete with us on paying fees unless they sell. Hirst has understandably been holding out for a championship club but it’s getting closer to us. Interesting that he’s been listed as no longer a Leicester player: https://www.lcfc.com/players/14283/George-Hirst/profile Think he’d be an excellent signing, would complete our two for every position and Kieran would get the most out of him and likely increase his resell value. So do we pay the £4m that the foxes want for George Hirst? on 10:34 - Aug 14 by BtreeBlueBlood | £4m 🤣no way! Leicester don’t want him and are desperate for money apparently! We missed out on Colby Bishop I feel but KMc knows best apart from Tuesday night imo. A Man U u21 player must be in his mind a squads get firmed up. But Utd might just bin there whole first team if they continue as they are! So we wait! We have enough to win this week! |
Were we interested in Colby Bishop ? Didn’t seem that way

So do we pay the £4m that the foxes want for George Hirst? on 11:17 - Aug 15 with 1240 views | PioneerBlue | Any number over £1.5m would be heavily weighted towards performance and progress in the Champ. Is it an injury holding a medical up? He has had no preseason to speak of, this is not like Leif Davis. Hirst has had limited preseason, limited game time that we can check up, and there was talk previously of time on sidelines due to undisclosed injury…

Sounds like they are pricing him out of the market (certainly the League 1 one). Either they are confident there is a higher Championship club prepared to take a punt on him as their main striker or they expect him to be in their first team in the future. I am sure we will have noted the price tag and moved on to another target instead.

Clearly nonsense though. What possible motivation would Leicester have to release a player they will definitely be able to get a fee for?

I've read some guff recently ref Hirst but this latest" being released on a free" has to be the worst ! If anything LCFC are looking for funds to help recruit if nothing else why would you let an asset go for nothing anyway regardless

Yes you were. You had a bid of £1.2m knocked back because accy wouldn't get a replacement in before the transfer window shut. The board turned down the bid and promised the player that they wouldn't stand on his way if another team came in for him at the season close. Pompey were not sure that Hirst would return and Bishop had also been a target for us. We went back and although Blackpool looked to have gazumped us with championship football , Bishop still felt he had a better sustained chance in the championship with Pompey. The facilities are great and the club one of the biggest in the league. Ipswich have held out for Hirst. So you were in for him but no longer and Pompey got their man anyways

We haven't been in for Bishop this summer, absolutely not. Last summer, yes. Definitely not this summer though.

“Bishop felt he had a better sustained chance in the championship with Pompey” I know when going up north to Accrington it sometimes feels like stepping back on time, but what part exactly of your last 10 seasons outside of the championship had convinced him of that?

As in Cook was but McKenna never was. I would let the Pompey fan think they have beaten us to him, though, if it makes him happy.

I don't think there are any Championship clubs for whom £4m is just a punt really. Not many £4m+ signings in that league who don't go straight into the first team. Hirst's contract is up next Summer, so the clock is ticking for Leicester to realise any value on him.

It's nonsense, clearly some website quirk/error*. They wanted £2 million for him, heard that from several sources over the last month or so, presumably with the usual top-ups/sell-on. That seems as significant a fee as they could get given he has only a year left on his contract. Not sure anything has moved particularly recently but we're still in for him, as far as I'm aware at least. *Feature if it was on TWTD.

Sanity restored via a reliable and informative post, with a pinch of self deprecation, a nod and a wink. Top work Hammers.
