Agree. Strange how we were prepared to just release him rather than loaning him out..

It was him who asked for the contract to be terminated, was fed up and felt he needed to move on basically.

Can't blame him, he clearly saw that there would be limited opportunities here, sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward.

Does feel like unrequited love with a few of our youngsters, which is slightly concerning.

Where has the colour of his skin been mentioned?

Or his focus or work rate more importantly.

Only his attitude has been questioned, in the same way it was of Gibbs and multiple other white youngsters who have been in this situation.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

If Simpson was so fantastic we wouldn't be struggling to find a club who will pay £500k!

Yeah that 5 page thread about Gibbs eh?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Well there was. He also received a lot of stick on social media, his comments were filled with snake emojis, people were @ all sorts at him

People used to say dobra had an attitude problem too. Same said about Norwood.

Fair play to him as well, because Cook told him he was free to leave at the back end of the 2020-2021 season. Came back flying in pre-season though so got a reprieve.

Think it will prove to be unfortunately and still think Dobra could bite us on the backside as well.

Like players conceding goals, what's done is done, we can't undo the errors, need to move on & work at ensuring same mistakes don't happen again.

Poll: Why can't/don't we protest like the French do? 🤔

Started well in the national league. Chesterfield top after 3 games and comfortably beating Wrexham who are favourites for the title. Think I saw he had 1 goal and 2 assists so far. May watch on BT Sport tomorrow as Notts County v Chesterfield is on the schedule.

The thing with Dobra is he just didn't seem to be doing quite enough to break into the team here so staying was going to do neither party any good and I think he needed a move away somewhere he was seen as a guaranteed starter. If we'd kept him it would probably just stall his development meaning he wouldn't become a 'bite us on the backside' level of player, we'd lose either way but at least Dobs gets a chance to progress his career.

Simpson could do with taking a leaf out of Dobras book. Dobra stayed and gave it a go despite his inability to really break into the first team and I doubt he was paid anymore than Simpson was at the same stage of his career.

I think parity with Dobra and El Mizouni was more or less what Simpson asked for.

But he wasn't at the same stage in his career that those 2 were. They have both at multiple times been knocking on the door of our first team. Simpson has barely had any first team minutes compared.

I think most clubs would rate 11 goals in 30 appearances in League 2 above anything that Dobra or El Mizouni have managed thus far in their career.

Not sure I agree, Dobra and El mizouni proved themselves as capable of doing a job for our first team both fairly solid if not spectacular on the whole. Simpson has yet to prove that. A successful half season in the division below is a whole different ball game to playing in our first team.

This differing opinion just between the fans shows what a tight line the club has to walk in managing our youngsters. We need to give them plenty of praise and chances when we can to prove their worth but if you over inflate their options of themselves and their bank balances then this hunger to succeed can dissappear before they even kick a ball for the first team. This is all made more treacherous by generous backing meaning more quality players in the first team in turn pushing the youth further down the pecking order. You see how impatient people are to get out of this league on the forum if a result doesn't go our way. The fans and the owners want promotion asap and the chances of this happening whilst relying on bedding in youngsters is all the more slim.

Some people think we should just pay the younger players a bit more but it's not as simple as that and where does that end. There will always be another player who has been built up by his experience of being the best of their peers and will want a bit more.

Simpson has actually made 7 appearances for our first team, 3 in the league. Which isn't as many as El Mizouni and Dobra, but equally shows that he has been on the fringe of the first team at times.

I'd be surprised if most football clubs didn't regard regular contributions in competitive league football as a notch above occasional first team cameos.

For sure the club has to make judgement calls and they aren't always easy. But the bottom line is that we're competing with 91 other league clubs to get the best footballers we can. If there are players we want to keep then the wages we offer have to be competitive with other clubs and those players have to be persuaded that we value them.

There is absolutely nothing to do be gained by sticking to a rigid wage structure and watching the small handful of youngsters we produce who are good enough for league football walk out the door.

Snip: There is absolutely nothing to do be gained by sticking to a rigid wage structure and watching the small handful of youngsters we produce who are good enough for league football walk out the door. Snip.

ITFC have offered Simpson a Contract though. A Contract the length of which, and salary wise, they feel Simpson should be offered at this stage of his development/career.

It is Simpson, presumably advised/guided by his Agent, that has decided not to sign the Contract offered. So he has chosen to "walk out the door".

The point is not whether we're offering contracts, it's whether those contracts are competitive with our rivals.
