The Fans Forum 06:20 - Sep 6 with 6258 views | chicoazul | All this chat about infrastructure and staff and projects and etc and etc It’s not really…..us is it? This professionalism and briskness and laser guided focus. It makes me feel uneasy, is the only way I can describe it. There’s something off about it. I can’t put my finger on it. Assuming as so often nobody else feels this way?

I thought that as well - but, and it’s a big but, he’s never aggressive or rude towards others. Maybe tries too hard to be ‘different’ but I do t think he’s deserving of a ban anymore. He’s the player who argues with the ref all of the time but never shouts or swears.

The Fans Forum on 10:28 - Sep 6 by Funge | Chickers is it not simply the possibility that the Banter Era might, finally, be ending? It really doesn't seem that likely that we are going to drop £2m on the likes of Nsiala and Nolan again, nor let Bullard and Chopra miss training to go out in Newcastle casinos, nor let the joint MD of the company get drunk at a works bash and rinse his boss, allegedly. Plus maybe 400 other examples... It's been a helluva ride, but, at last, might this most janky of eras be concluding? [Post edited 6 Sep 2022 10:29]

There is no end to the banter era in sight, not with a CEO employing his own son as an ‘analyst’ while the other son works for the agency responsible for arranging a lot of the transfer deals.

Fair point ref the lack of rudeness but their sole purpose seems to be to constantly antagonise by posting ridiculous comments that have no basis in fact - i.e. troll...well worthy of a ban imo. He isn't even a player...he's an opposition fan who runs onto the pitch and argues with the ref every 5 minutes...

If a previous version of our desperate elephant did indeed joke about the passing of Dale Roberts that surely should be a lifetime ban. |

You’re probably right. I just find this new era of ruthless professionalism very jarring. It’s not exactly John Duncan playing David Hill and David Gregory in midfield is it.

The Fans Forum on 12:43 - Sep 6 with 1010 views | Dyland | Corporate America style, and a model used in varying forms globally by a lot of businesses regardless of ownership and industry. I'm familiar with the lingo and presentation and method, all driven by data and KPIs. Uneasy? Maybe it's the lack of gut instinct and louche bravado, heroic failure and well, sport being a game first and foremost. I'm very nostalgic for that but modern pro football moved away from this decades ago. It's all very corporate but that's what's needed for ITFC to get back up the pyramid. I guess a billionaire fan from Suffolk would be a nice owner instead, as long as they hired people who knew what to do... but essentially we're back in the same place anyway. I love listen to KmK talk about tactics and footy, he is THE breath of fresh air we've been starved off for such a long time (yeh right some posters saying Hurst was a breath of fresh air in his first presser... massive yeh fooking right). I don't enjoy all the other talk from Ashton etc. of the club and where we could go and potential, this does make me slightly uneasy cos it's all just words, we shall see what transpires IF we can get promoted. His/her posts are actually quite clever. Pick a reasonable viewpoint e.g there should be some concerns about our investors. Use deliberately antagonistic and often slightly wrong language to wind people up e.g the ownership structure in no ways meets the usual definition of a franchise but it's a 'scary' American thing. Take the most negative viewpoint on the topic at hand. Sit back and watch the fun. Scot Adams, the creator of the Dilbert cartoon wrote a book called "Win Bigly" about the tactics used by Trump and Elephant often dips into his playbook!

I'm with Chickers on this. It's Nerdy isn't it. He's not ill informed at all, but is very bitter about the club, administration and cynical about modern footy in general. Fair enough. No idea if he joked about someone dying, seems unlikely tbh, but if true of course that is not acceptable, rules or no rules re forum. [Post edited 6 Sep 2022 13:46]

Yeah I third this. Nerdy/ Elephant has been like this forever - along with NewmarketBlue, lest we forget that George Burley destroyed this club. I disagree about his viewpoint on a lot (almost all) stuff, but clearly a knowledgeable fellow. People rinse him for his views, which is fair enough - he is a very pessimistic voice at a time of relative optimism - but not feeling the calls to ban him.

The Fans Forum on 15:17 - Sep 6 with 789 views | Deano69 | Think I get what you mean. It is a change of direction, but inevitable. We have to be proud of the past but not live in it. Build on the fabulous achievements going back to the sixties. Celebrate and remember them fondly while trying to compete and achieve new accomplishments. Gone are the days in football of bumbling from one crisis to the next. You need to be switched on and have a strategy for the club. Proper plans rather than a vague few lines of 'it would be nice if...' Football clubs need investment not simply maintaining only those things through necessity. Standing still is really going backwards, as other clubs are making those commitments to the future. This is the most cohesive the club seems to have been for almost 2 decades. A genuine desire to improve everything that surrounds the club. Its 'clean' money and well meaning people behind the investment. If it all goes to plan we could be considered a blueprint for how clubs in similar situations to us can drag themselves away from years of decline and churn. Even if we don't achieve the ultimate plan, there has been so much good stuff on the way even that is a success. Exciting times, #LoveITFC [Post edited 6 Sep 2022 15:17]

It’s surely a reflection of when you started supporting the club? If like many you recall Town as country cousins, run by affable Old Etonians then having right-on characters straight out of a The Office parody, recreating Bristol City in Suffolk does indeed jar a little If on the other hand you’re linked with the Sheepshanks era - then really it’s like swapping a couple of used car salesmen for an Old Etonian spiv - not too bad - but is it financially viable? And if you’re 30 or under - you can’t remember a football club at Ipswich which wasn’t financially challenged - or slightly embarrassing. So it’s no doubt seen as improvement - even though it isn’t really ‘Ipswich’. Whatever - a promotion challenge finally looks likely. It better succceed though because 3rd place and play-off failure could have serious repercussions.

Agree with all that, except to state the obvious that football has changed. So if you want ITFC to be successful you have to go with the flow. As I said earlier, even a savvy Suffolk boy done good would need to go the corporate bollix route to have success. What you're essentially saying is you would rather Town stayed put (or even worse) than be a corporate entity with identikit soundbites to any other big business. I kind of get the Ashton pisstake but I infer more than mere ad hominem internet mockery from you. And why the beef? He's done a good job and the plan must look sensible or there is no way the yanks would be investing. The idea he's just a chancer is based on... what? Unfair imo. Though yes yes yes it could all go tits up, but that's the game. Let's talk about McKenna instead. I'd love to get some negative thoughts to put his start here in perspective :)

The Fans Forum on 11:43 - Sep 6 by Skip_Intro | Here you are again spouting your usual negative rubbish. How can it be 'franchise football' given the massive increase in engagement with the community - something which had been lacking for years. The club are investing more into community projects that we have ever seen before. Hardly the actions of a 'franchise' purely diven by money... I really don't understand why you're here - why don't you go back to Carrot Road with the rest of your mates... |
The community focus is part of the business strategy though isn’t it, they’re not just doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. Engage the fanbase/customers, create more fans/customers etc. I’m not knocking it because it’s probably the best we can hope for given how modern football is and we should be doing it but not everything has to be polarised so you’re either 100% positive and believe everything Ashton says is genuine or you’re anti the football club & new regime.

The Fans Forum on 09:16 - Sep 6 by ElephantintheRoom | It’s franchise football- a pair of chancers have convinced some people to borrow some money to create and fund a gravy train in Suffolk that didn’t quite work in Bristol. No different really to Evans sending an identical fax to six different clubs and seeing if anyone bites on his ‘vision’ All is well at the moment - and Town might even shortly beat Cambridge. I doubt it will end well though because of the sheer number of people looking to take money out of the club. For now though, their only real source of income is the support base - and credit where credit is due - they are doing that really well. Most of the bluster is aimed at the financial backers - who genuinely believe in that tosh. |
