Gilts and Sterling rallying strongly

But how can that be?

We were told only yesterday that the issues with sterling and bonds was due to global factors and not the mini budget.

Surely they weren't lying.......

Perhaps using some crayons and moving around some salt and pepper pots somebody has been able to explain to them how markets work and now they both agree it's not a very good idea?

I'm beginning to think that they are not entirely honest.

Quite.

For the love of Paul Mariner, can we please vote these idiot frauds out next time and put some adults in charge. They’re treating all of us with contempt. I’m almost at the point where I don’t care what the policies are, I’d just be happy with a government that isn’t stupid, corrupt and sociopathic.

There's no justice in them just picking another leader - I know they technically can, but this is bullsh1t. If they had any decency at all, they'd call a GE.

Edit: just came across this:

Unless the 1922 Committee changes the rules, they can't theoretically have another vote of no confidence in the party leader until a year has passed.

Can't imagine how Truss would be forced to step down herself without a serious wave of resignations (from the ministers she appointed only a few weeks ago), or a threat of mass MP defections to other parties/going independent.

Either of which would cause a crisis in the constituency parties which, after all, were the ones who opted for Truss.

Or she just loses a confidence vote, innit? Maybe not impossible.

But what happens then GB?

Not sure the country is going to stomach another Tory PM voted for by a small membership.

The membership have been shown to have absolutely no judgement and no understanding of the effect of policies.

I really hope the first time buyer stamp duty allowance survives as that has saved me an awful lot of money. Due to complete before the end of the year but would probably be imminent if the seller and solicitors weren’t so fcking slow.

Kin hell.

Pop out for 2 hours and the govt is now rumoured to be u-turning on it's tax policies, the city has priced in those rumours and Trussenomics are thus consigned to the bin where they belong.

So the question is surely now does Truss dump her discredited Chancellor or do they try and pretend it was "just a matter of timing" or "poor communication" and maintain that the policies were right and remain the ambition?

Keeping corporation tax at 19% (no rise to 25%) will help to boost growth, claims Truss

Why does growth need to be boosted

Because it has sluggish for a decade

A decade in which corporation tax has been cut 6 separate times (see above sentence)

Looking at the US inflation print today, that will be pouring petrol on an already raging fire.

The very last thing the economy needs now is to be boosted.
