For once I don't think that this is necessarily a problem with the tournament - it is a problem with Football's rule-makers in general.
There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of situation to remain unclear - there are plenty of examples of other sports where head injuries are a risk where they have got a workable solution in place.
Surely this cannot be simply because the football rule makers don't want to be seen to follow the example of rugby? |  | | |

Rule is - any head injury the player involved has to go off for further checks unless it’s a goalkeeper. I guess with outfield players you can play on albeit disadvantaged and with a keeper you cannot.

He just kicked a ball 100m, and 1 min earlier felt he could complete the remaining 70 mins of a world cup game, I’m pretty sure he could walk 3 steps to the touch line for the stretcher. [Post edited 21 Nov 2022 18:30]

Not with a keeper, he doesn't have to leave the pitch after treatment. Ref handled this fine, it's on the medical staff. |  |

I work for a team in Scotland in the East of Scotland League and video their games and do their Social Media etc.
Last month we played a match where 2 opposing players badly clashed heads on the edge of their penalty area. One went down immediately, the other player stayed with his team mate for 3 or 4 minutes whilst he was treated then walked towards the centre circle seemingly fine and then spun round and collapsed.
There was genuine concerns he was going to lose his life from the nature of his collapse, swallowing his tongue and fitting. Yet he seemed initially to come off the clash unscathed.
It was pretty scary and nobody was focusing on him as he was up, walking around and talking whilst his team mate (who was fine) was being treated. It was horrific and showed you don't know the effects of a head knock.
For the record, our match was abandoned and we had to wait for an ambulance to arrive. Thankfully all brain scans etc were clear other than just bad concussion. | |
