It's nothing personal, just find them a bit chirpy when the rugby is on so it is nice when they flop at football in my book. I always want the Scots, Ni and the Republic to do well though. The Welsh pundits don't do themselves any favours. I like Hartson, but dubbing Bale a genius after doing naff all except score a penalty is pretty nauseating.

The Welsh one is rather good. It’s all a bit North Korea though - they sing it everywhere. Any local concert, school play, you name it.

To get their own back for loads of the English playing in the national WELSH side, probably. But in fairness, if you once received a postcard from Aberystwyth that should be enough to qualify you! We could scrap all the home nations and have a UK side if we’re serious about the UK. Is there another nation state that’s allowed to have multiple national teams?

I have discovered another state that genuinely does have multiple national teams, it may come as a surprise..... France France has a number of overseas territories which are politically and administratively part of France. For instance if you flew to South America and landed in French Guiana you would be in the EU, as it is part of France. French Guiana has it's own national football team though, as does Guadelope, Martinique, Mayotte and Réunion. So, surprisingly France has more national teams than the UK.

Because there wasn't a Welsh League for them to join when they (and Newport and Wrexham) were formed.

It's ATBE for me, despite living in England for virtually all my life, but perhaps I should explain the background. In the 1970 World Cup, aged 10, I supported England, and even cried when they were knocked out. In the 1974 World Cup, I supported Scotland, the place where my parents were born, as England didn't qualify, but I couldn't persuade anyone in my class at Northgate to support Scotland. The impression I got was that they were jealous because England hadn't qualified, but from that moment on, I thought that if they wouldn't support Scotland, I wouldn't support England. And I may have possibly found another one. Denmark. It might not be quite so strictly a nation state as the UK and France, but the Kingdom of Denmark includes Denmark, Greenland and The Faroe Islands, so it has three national teams.

That is my feelings on this whole situation. Normally, I like to see the home nations do well, but it’s ground my gears during this tournament and I’d be delighted to see Wales get knocked out by us, just to quieten them all down.

Was married to a Welshman (from Powys) - he & his Mam always used to scoff at all that, particularly when it came to what they considered embarrassing patriotic overload in the 6-Nations prelims.

My local non league team in France, Avranches, got drawn against a team from one of these, a few years ago in the French Cup (possibly Guadelope). I am sure the Avranches players were playing for draw, to get a nice replay away.
