"Every point's a prisoner" doesn't stack up too well in a World Cup knock-out round.

Next England Manager on 08:44 - Nov 26 by tractordownsouth | He’s a good manager, not a top one. I agree in game substitutions are his weak spot but I still don’t get the clamouring for Foden. He’s been poor for England whenever he’s played, especially against Iran. 18 months ago people were shouting for Foden to be taken off and replaced by Grealish! When Maddison’s fit he’d be my pick in that position. |
Southgate is an excellent man manager but is lacking tactically. I don't agree that he should always play a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1. Against better quality sides our defence is lacking and wing backs can be the better option and that's when TAA should play as he is more of a WB tan FB. He is certainly a better option than Foden at WB even if he has to play on the left. An example would be Burns, would anyone want him playing a RB in a 4-4-2? [Post edited 26 Nov 2022 17:31]

Haven't England played with a back three with wing backs before under Southgate?

Let’s hope he goes to Norwich.

Yes, but he has started Saka at wing back, not the best option but he was a youth FB so he can defend at least. He has never started with Foden at WB but has bought him on as England switched to a back 5 and played him at LWB leaving TAA on the bench. Foden has many qualities, defending is not one of them. Trent might not be not a natural defender and struggles at times but he is miles ahead of Foden in that respect. [Post edited 26 Nov 2022 23:11]

Possibly someone like West Ham might have a stab if Moyes has done all he can with them.. Bearing in mind he got sacked from a mediocre Championship team, maybe WBA or Preston? Or there’s always Rangers I suppose. [Post edited 26 Nov 2022 23:45]

Next England Manager on 22:45 - Nov 25 by XYZ | Funny isn't it? England's most successful manager since SAR gets to the knock-outs yet again and all the idiots self-identify. Getting deep into tournaments is not always jolly entertaining. |
It’s all an opportunity to block those with few constructive thoughts. I mean, it’s perfectly possible to have counter views, for or against GS but at least use a reasoned point of view, instead we have to read half sentence utterances to get to the few that are worth reading! I happen to think he has done about enough to go out on his terms when it’s right for him and team however this tournament goes from here. If he wants to do one more Euro’s so be it, unless we win this World Cup I will be surprised if he leads into the next one but wouldn’t be vehemently against like some. There are a few changes or at least players to consider based on age coming though next 4 years, E.g, Kane, Stirling, Hendo, Walker, Stones? McGuire? Shaw? That could be a longer term build which might need to be a 6 year view outwards. [Post edited 27 Nov 2022 8:02]

Agreed with the 5 at the back against the top teams but I don’t think Trent is the answer. He likes to cut inside and when the wing-backs are the only source of width, it makes the pitch too small.

Next England Manager on 22:42 - Nov 25 by Superblue95 | F**k it, let’s go for Bielsa so. All out attacking madness. Grealish and Foden as wing backs |
I like this idea. But then I liked the idea of Shefki replacing Cook, if only for the insanity of it. However, Bielsa might just work! Maybe he could employ Roy Keane as coach and enforcer.
Next England Manager on 12:43 - Nov 27 with 834 views | rickw | Personally I think his time should be up after this WC. If we win then he's got nothing left to achieve, if we fail then he's going backwards and needs to go, if we lose in the semi/final then that's as far as he can take us. After this I think it has to be Eddie Howe, if not him I quite like the Pochettino idea someone had, but not sure if he'd leave as soon as a top club side is on the phone

He is very keen to tell anyone who will listen that the recent period is the most successful ever in the history of the England men's football team. Despite not winning anything at all.
