David Baddiel has finally apologised for his racism to Jason Lee ... on 09:33 - Nov 28 by giant_stow
I don't think he's attacking *real* progressives - just the ones who think they are but have a problem with Jews.
I would also say that a real progressive ought to be able to handle criticism and deal with it constructively / be open to errors - I do think we all have some prejudice in us to deal with, even if it's a tiny corner of the mind for the more enlightened.
He showcased a speech from Dawn Butler in the tv programme because she listed various minority groups in a conference speech but didn't include Jews. What stood out from that point for me was that there were other (larger) minority groups that she also didn't list, which made it a very weak point (the kind that made me wonder how it got past the producers because it undermined his argument against her quite significantly).

None of us are truly 'clean' - or at least very very few of us - other than a few on here of course. And these are very different times. Anyway wasnt it his hair style that the joke was about? Can hairstyles now be deemed racist? I used to get called Dougal, after the dog in The Magic Roundabout. Ive never got over it. Who do I sue?
How many white people had a hairstyle like Jason Lee's at that time?
You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....

You've gone full Gianni Infantino. Never go full Infantino mate.
Pronouns: He/Him/His.
"Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."
This probably just goes to prove that it is possible for an individual from one racial or ethnic minority to be racist/insensitive/discriminatory to a person from another racial or ethnic minority.

Today, I am a moose.
The most maligned, besmirched and misquoted of all the ruminants.

Of course. No ‘group’ is immune to this. The very characteristics that define someone as belonging to a ‘group’ are those that some people will single out and attack, whatever ‘group’ they themselves belong to. The common denominator is that those doing the attacking or mocking are always tvvats.

Too true.

If I remember rightly, at least one of his parents had to escape Poland during the war and they lost family members to the holocaust, so of course racism has affected him. A quick glance at the responses to some of his Twitter posts shows that he is a victim of racist abuse.
None of which excuses the Jason Lee abuse, which was bullying as much as it was racist. Mocking dreadlocks and blacking up probably felt less so in the context of the early nineties, same with Ali G, although discussions on whether that character was racist were quite prevalent.
It was bullying and it was racism. A classic example of two wrongs not making a right. Unfortunately, Jason Lee doesn’t get a well publicised tv slot to make his point.

That's fair although I didn't notice who he left out - who was it? Maybe I'm revealing a blind spot by admitting / asking.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

Is he a victim? Probably not.
Is Jason Lee a victim? Definitely.
Is David Baddiel racist? Yes
Is David Baddiel a victim of racism? No, he's a successful comedian.
OK, I've been away from my PC since this post.
I accept the criticism directed at me for it and regret posting it as it was worded - I won't edit it because that would disrespect the replies - it was posted in anger at having read the Jason Lee stuff.
I acknowledge that David Baddiel may be a victim of racism and that I'm not aware of his personal experiences.
I stand by my comment that this apology was opportunistic. He had 25 years to apologise to Jason Lee - the timing was not accidental.

DB at least addressed his own 'mis-step' where others might have tried to ignore it, justify it or pretend it didn't matter because it was so long ago. I can accept his regret is real and don't see reason to label him a racist today.
He is also right to highlight his own experience and that of modern Jews.

20 minutes into this and Baddiel isn't doing himself any favours IMO.
Thanks for sharing. JL was very dignified but certainly (rightly) held him to account. Also, liked the way he would reign DB in if he felt he was getting too friendly not letting him forget what he had done and how it had effected him

DB's cause is to be wholeheartedly supported, but I do sense he only offered this apology because of his TV programme.
Interestingly, the Forde Report into the Labour Party suggested there was a hierarchy of racism in operation, with black and Muslim members at the bottom of the pile.
This appears to be reflected in the fact that Dianne Abbott received half of the abusive tweets aimed at all female MPs during the 2017 election campaign, but this got precious little coverage anywhere.
