POTD. You had Mannas Cafe on the corner near Red Eye; Tony Vaughan and Neil Thompson regular breakfast attendees there... Red Eye now occupied by Glen Dale hairdressers; Glen arguably the nicest bloke in the world.

Went down hill after Mintz and Davis disappeared, couldn’t get a Lyle and Scott or a Pringle Jumper anywhere then.

He’s a ledge. Used to be at Francesco’s. I’ve asked this before on here but does anyone remember Brian Page sports in town?

It was a shame when the one on the extreme right closed down, but I guess Tom Watts for no-one…

Mannas cafe on a Saturday morning was a weekly staple of mine. Outrageous breakfasts.

The only place in Ipswich which sold top quality shoes at ridiculously cheap prices. Often buy shoes from there and then pop to Coes of Ipswich to buy a smoking jacket

Some great shops along that street, with Martin & Newbies around the corner. I bought a direct-drive Sansui turnable from a tiny little electrical store near the 1st Floor club entrance back in the 80’s. Was like going back in time even then.

Surprised. I thought most of the independent sports shops & even the small chains like Intersport had been driven out of business by Mike Ashley (and his predecessors such as JJB.

Indeed, I think there were two such Sainsbury's in the town, before the supermarket in Upper Brook Street opened. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/568509152961420876/
Mick McNeil Sports, Tacket Street on 11:33 - Dec 24 with 5501 views | Matt_Netherlands | What a shop. Even better if you had a members card. Best selection of Puma and Umbro boots to be found in there. What’s the best sports shop the town has had? Mick’s has to be up there Total football on the one way system? JJB sports in town with the cage? The big warehouse on the west of town that you had to have a members card? (Can’t remember the name! Late 90s??)

They sold Subbuteo stuff as well which made it a magical trip in the mid 70’s, then come 79’ they were also a go to for Fred Perry’s. I was a hockey player in the past and my Karachi King stick came from Micks. Part of Ipswich folklore!

I'm amazed to have just discovered that Pope & Smith in Chelmsford is still going. I used to get my sporting gear from there in the 1970s. I've also just found out that the founders - Dudley Pope & Peter Smith (I'd heard of the latter) were both Essex cricketers.

Total Football was run by Terry Westley (I think) and his wife and was the best for proper football gear. Clayton Sports and Mick McNeil’s were staples in the early 90s As for fashion, Club in the Buttermarket centre (late 90s-ish) opposite where Superdry is now) was decent.

I bought a pair of Quasar boots from there in the early 90s. A very short lived boot brand, endorsed by Gary Lineker, which were actually pretty crap.
