If we don’t get promoted this season… 05:51 - Jan 10 with 14657 views | chicoazul | It will be the greatest failure in the clubs history. Worse than relegation worse than losing to Them in the play offs worse than not winning the league in 81. All that will pale in comparison. The single greatest failure in history. The club is on a knife edge. What would the future hold?

If we don’t get promoted this season… on 11:03 - Jan 10 with 1992 views | itfcsuth | The club is being built on solid foundations for the future, and is also being repaired following a negligent period under Marcus Evans. The clubs future will not hinge on whether we get promoted this season or not. Get yourself a cup of tea, a nice bacon sandwich, stick loose women on and relax.

If we don’t get promoted this season… on 10:46 - Jan 10 by chicoazul | Unsure why so many boyos are so rattled by this simple statement of fact. It would be the greatest failure of our history to not go up now after the new arrivals & our current squad and position. And if that happens will we be sold in very short order? Will Ashton et al be off? |
Because it’s a really stupid post. But you already know that.

If we don’t get promoted this season… on 08:22 - Jan 10 by ghostofescobar | Very odd post, but I'll bite. When our current owners took over, this club was broken, inside, outside, top to bottom, on the pitch and off. Some of our fans, with short memories, are forgetting quite how bad things were. To be where we are, on the pitch and off of it, at this stage is, I think, incredible. KM only took over a little over a year ago. I genuinely thought this season may be a season too early to get into the automatic places and maybe even to push into the play offs. I thought there was too much to fix, in too short a time. If we don't go up, I much prefer this knife edge to the one we'd be facing under Evans, which I have no doubt would eventually have sucked us into a struggle against falling into L2. |
When our current owners took over we also had a number of 'our' fans thanking Evans. THANKING ! For what he has turned us into, for the whole disaster the club was under his tenure. [Post edited 10 Jan 2023 11:22]

It’s not stupid. It is a fact that, if we don’t go up after all this investment and new players in addition to the ones we have, then it will be our greatest ever failure and, if that did happen, what would our future be. Why would you not think this?

If we don’t go up it will be because 2 clubs have performed out of their skins and we narrowly missed out, at present Argyle and Wednesday or on for 100 points or thereabouts, and the play offs are a lottery. No shame in failing there and we go again.

Why not think that if we do go up: - it will have been one of the most enjoyable seasons in the past7/8 years - it will have been one of the most entertaining sides we have seen in the last 10/15 years, - it will be the next step in the club continuing to head towards the Premier League We have one of the best young managers probably in Europe, we have a fantastic CEO, we have fantastic owners, and we have incredible support. Well I’m not sure I said it would be shameful although I don’t agree that it wouldn’t be. I fail to see how it isn’t our greatest disaster ever though if it happens.

Rome wasn't built in a day (or in this case, a season). If we don't get promoted this season, we've laid some very, very solid foundations to go again next season. As I said, disappointing if we don't go up, but not a failure considering where we were when Gamechanger, McKenna, Ashton etc started running things properly.

If we don’t get promoted this season… on 11:44 - Jan 10 with 1860 views | Guthrum | Disagree. The decline to relegation in 2019 was the greatest failure in the club's history. Without that, we wouldn't even be in this position. It was also something which shouldn't and needn't have happened.

The BIG question is - are you having fun this season? If the answer is yes then enjoy the ride. We're all going to die one day.
If we don’t get promoted this season… on 12:04 - Jan 10 with 1769 views | SomethingBlue | Chico is dramatising here guys, of course, but there is the germ of a point: we are at a sweet spot currently, a confluence between heavy & enthusiastic investment, an excellent management team and squad for the level, perfectly-poised league position and genuinely vibrant buy-in from the town & fanbase. It's not to say we wouldn't do it in future, clearly, but this is a really rare chance to have all these things at the same time and we'd kick ourselves not to take it.

A close family member worked with the club, on and off, on the youth side for a few years under the Evans regime, and the stories he told about the state of things back then was beyond depressing.

Agreed, but I'd say there isn't much more we (as a holistic club/fanbase) could be doing to take that chance. It's really down to fine margins on the pitch - the slip of a foot, the bounce of a ball, reffing decisions going one way or the other. The team can't be accused of playing within themselves, just it's sometimes extremely hard to break through packed defences. The fans are turning up and travelling in very large numbers. There's not a lot more which can be asked. If we fail now, I don't see where the blame can lie.

And if we don’t go up this year I’ll still agree with you. But failure to go up this year after so many windows of huge investment and changes? Relegation was the inevitability of slow motion decline.

It will certainly be a big failure if we were not to go up this year. But IMO would come down to chance more than lack of effort on the part of the club or squad.
