Edmundson - off the naughty step? 09:34 - Jan 15 with 5583 viewschicoazul

Surely now he needs to come in from the cold. As much as I love dear old Janoi I think a more trad back 3 of him Woolf and Burg/Leigh/new player could be powerful enough to see us thru games that we are leading? Got to be worth a shot. Would give Burns a bit more to do defensively though.

He'd be playing ahead of Burgess for me. It's slightly baffling that even Keogh appears to be ahead of him.

They like the balance that Burgess, being a left footer, gives them on the left of the three/two and a half.

We can only have 18 players in the squad, so someone's going to be left out. Aluko was with the analysts up by the press box.

If neither were injured. It was criminal neither were on the bench imo.
Top of table clash and we leave such experience out of the game.

To give Edmundson a fair chance, he needs to play on that right side of our defence or in place of Woolfenden centrally. Playing a right footer on the left, really restricts them as a player as it makes things more difficult, also impacts the way we play as it makes the pitch a little narrower as they want to come inside on to their favoured foot.

I didn’t like the lack of Aluko from the off. He’s a great player to bring on and hold the ball up at the end of the game. We missed him when he was injured, now we’re not using him when he’s fit. For me, he should be a sub every game, considering how often we find ourselves trying to defend a lead.

I said when he came back that we'd have won more of those games we dropped points in if he was available to bring on off the bench.

He just gives you that ball holder in a very important position. And you have the luxury of either playing him high or letting him roam in the middle.

Saw all the players left out yesterday, including most long term injured, other than Aluko. You’ve accounted for aluko but edmundson not at the game?

Guy at work joined from the agency that managed edmundson and others and seemed to think his agent was angling for a move in the summer. That could be a load of rubbish, but does all seem a bit odd.

Recon he’ll be here in Feb?

Harsh on Humph yes but I haven’t seen the other two play apart from 20 mins for Hirst and B-road is already injured.

Edit; B-road??? Broad!

Played the Rotherham game.

Although he did spend the last 10 minutes of that game gingerly moving around the pitch after going down with what looked like cramp or a muscle strain.

Edmundson is certainly more comfortable on the ball than Burgess. It was noticeable yesterday that Burgess did not want the ball from Walton who was forced to kick it long, which he generally did poorly.

And no Aluko. Think we might have seen it out if he’d come on for the last 30 minutes. Hope he’s not injured.

*Edit - on phone and hadn’t read previous comments re Aluko before posting, apologies.

I'd love to see Edmundson back in but we haven't played a proper back 3 like you're suggesting for months and it doesn't look like we are likely to.

That makes it odd that we have only one left footed centre back in the squad. That’s where I’d look to strengthen in this window if we could.

Seeing him from the North Stand really emphasised how is not a natural fit on the left.

For all the fantastic positives (just look at the set up for Harness's shot which hit the bar), Davis is rather suspect defensively too which I don't think helps us on the left.

But to replace Davis with, say, Leigh will mean we don't offer as much going forward, so the answer to the problem isn't easy.

Perhaps we've just to hope the two new signings make us that bit more clinical so that the odd defensive lapse doesn't prove costly. In this regard, I liked what I saw of Hirst when he came on.

I'd like to see Leigh on the left side of three at the back at some point. He seems to have all the attributes to do well there.

Although Edmundson prefers playing on the left, so not sure I agree that he's not suited to it. It's just that his form hasn't been great, there wasn't a lot of talk last season about Edmundson not being able to play on the left as he was playing well.

I get that, but for me Edmundson's left foot and left sided play is better than Burgess' right foot and right sided play. So there's an argument for balance in both cases.
