Our rivals 09:48 - Apr 3 with 8171 views | CityBlue | I have to say the Owls and Argyle forums make interesting reading this morning. Never known such a pessimistic self resigning bunch. They seem to forget the fact they still occupy the top two slots yet are talking like their seasons are over!!

I think we're actually the best in the league at that, in my thimble opinion.

Our rivals on 12:51 - Apr 3 by FrimleyBlue | Strange how things go isn't it Mumba was motm and pots to many plymouth fans. Now he's hurting the side to some. Sheff wed fans back to questionning the manager who took them 21 games unbeaten. Almost like some fans are speaking out with frustrations during a concerning period where they allowed a 10 point gap to drop at the top of the table. How bizarre |
The difference is the extent to which fans let results dictate the narrative, rather than performances and seeing the bigger picture. 2 months ago we had fans losing their sh1t because we drew 1-1 at Cambridge in a game we dominated, had 15 shots and 75% of the ball, at a time when we were (and still are) a work in progress, but a very encouraging one with a long term vision. Was it a vintage performance? No, but it was also at a time when we were bringing 3 new signings into the fold, 2 starting and 1 off the bench. It's not really the same for Wednesday. They've got an ageing squad and play average football. If the 'We'VE FuKeD iT alL Up' brigade can't see the nuance then that's on them, but it's really not comparable and the over reaction from some of our so called supporters was utterly embarrassing and completely misplaced. There was one comment on owlstalk I saw at the weekend, it was basically “fk Ipswich, they’ve had to go 7 unbeaten just to get near us, they can’t sustain that.” If we were to have a little blip over Easter and they don’t, all of a sudden they’re 5 or 6 points ahead of us with just a few games left. There needs to be no let-up from us.

Our rivals on 12:56 - Apr 3 by pointofblue | Don’t think the impact of Luongo and Broadhead can be underestimated on Morsy and Burns. I was critical of Morsy when he was partnered with Humphreys as I thought the latter was doing more. Now, looking back, Morsy was babysitting at the time and having an experienced, effective partner next to him has taken his game to the next level. Before Broadhead arrived, teams would double up on Burns as the threat from the left wasn’t quite so prevalent. Now they cannot afford to do that, which gives Burns more space to operate. |
I would think it’s not just those two - Clarke must also help Burns providing that extra threat, so doubling up on Burns just isn’t a sensible way to set up.

Hi there I don't think our site is any more introspective than others....maybe Owlstalk takes it to the extremes. Like most sites we have the "I told you so-ers" that appear to enjoy any bump in the road.... Sunday was horrible....started badly and fell away, but it is done and if you were going to pick a side to play away in your next game it would probably be Morecambe....even if we have a certain ex Manager thing to overcome. I think two Easter wins sets us up for a defining pair of away games...Exeter will be a hard game as that literally would be their wet dream, beating us to derail a promotion. Shrews....well depends what happens before we get there as I think they may have blown a gasket at Charlton, and are out of contention to all intents and purposes. Your form is spectacular currently, and it is the relentless clean sheets that do it for me .....if you have a good Easter I can see you and us being top two with six to play....our saving grace will be a run of three home games against teams that should be safe or down.... I also think we need to do it as the play offs will be tough this year.... Someone is probably heading into them with maybe 94/5 points on the board.... Time will tell.....but to maintain the pun theme, it is for the chasers to reel the leaders in.....

You’ve had a couple of spankings this season but you always seem to bounce back. It feels as if you’ve never really had a blip the way we did in Dec/Jan, and Weds are now having. Getting hunped at Wembley in front of near 80k is probably not what you wanted but if you go up I doubt your fans will care too much. And as you say, Morecambe is in theory a perfect fixture to have given they seem to be in freefall. Playoffs? Can’t even think about them? You just know a derby/Wycombe/posh will finish 6th and take it from there.

From a selfish point of view, we need Plymouth to respond as they did to their last cup thrashing - three points from twelve - rather than each of the responses to heavy league defeats, where you have gone on multi-game winning runs. Would like Plymouth and Barnsley to go up with us. If we fail to go up, couldn’t care less. Will just be looking at those teams bitterly next season.

I agree. However that wasn't what was being discussed on this thread. But if you like others can't go a day without thinking of a post 18 months ago or a name for a player used more by others than the poster itself then that's for you to enjoy doing. But the discussion in this thread between Stewart and I was referring to the dropping of players during difficult runs.

Anyone can have a brainfart. I think the reason whackaball still irks me is that is was consistent over a long period of time and and the poster won't take ownership/accountability. The whole 'its just football talk' and now Burns is playing better 'he's listening to me', rather than 'i took it too far'.

How have I not owned up to it. Gav asked the forum not to use the word. That was the last time I used it and even before then it was used sparingly. Others however.... Tbh the listening to me as said at the time was in jest and as said to you at the time no I wasn't serious the he had actually listened to me. Tbh I didn't think I had to point that out.

You continue to use the line 'everything else is just talking about football' when it wasn't. Doing what admin tells you to do isn't accountability, it is following their rules. I'm not wanting to get into an argument about it. If you disagree, let's agree to disagree. Please reflect on this though.

Again however we were not discussing anything other than supporters wanting players dropped during poor runs and being critical of players performances. That's what was being discussed in this thread between me and Stewart. On what you and Clive are wanting to discuss however. I have held my hands up. But don't see the need to write a post daily holding my hands up. It's not my fault if people wish to ignore me doing so. And I mentioned the gav part as my point was that I hadn't used it since whilst others continued to do so even in threads I wasn't part of. So the constant usage you referred to was by others more than myself who originally used it.

But everyone isn’t talking about football on here, are they? It’s a case of “let’s take another shot at Frimley Blue”. People say he ruins the forum by posting so much but bringing up the past time and again when the discussion is about something different is doing the same thing, and details the thread from the original topic. I know I said stuff in our losing run. I know I had question marks over Walton, Morsy and Burns for their performances over those matches, and whether McKenna should try a different approach. Albeit through a lot of investment, we’re now purring. But on Owlstalk especially, they’re going through what we did from November to February, and the mood is very similar. It’s not over expectation; it’s being a football fan. I think Southampton’s squad is awful and they have no right to stay up but, if I go on their forum, I bet there will be posters calling out players for under-achieving and questioning the (interim) manager.

Inadvertently down arrowed this when I meant to up arrow. Football fans discussing football is a world away from the name calling of players (and manager) and general bed wetting of some of our posters.
