There is now a dedicated thread on Owlstalk which makes interesting reading if to be believed. One of their fans saying he is an active member on their forum!

This has turned into a right old ding dong. We don't want a ringer for this game. Even if there's the tinytus chance of bias. Good to see the club are making an a peal.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Surely this all could have been avoided. The people who allocate the refs must know who the refs are a fan off.
I know he's professional etc, but if he is openly saying he's a sheff wed fan, it doesn't sit right that he's refing a game against their promotion rivals.
I'm sure it'll be dressed up by many SW fans as 'oh classic Ipswich whining about the officials again' but the fact of the matter is, if their referee were to be an Ipswich fan, they would absolutely want them changed as would be their right.
The notion of him over-compensating to protect his reputation is far too hypothetical and presumptuous and would put the integrity of the title race into question whether he was generous or harsh.

Every one was bang on. How Mike Whitlow complained was anyone's guess!
12 yellows. 2 reds. 3 penalties against.
No cards to us.
And Bolton had the nerve to blame the ref rather than look at their own thuggery. Absolute sh1thouses and deserved nothing more. Shame for them really as they had some quality players.

An algorithm to avoid this kind of thing would have been easy twenty years ago, never mind today. The only excuse can be that the EFL don't think it's an issue. Which would be typical, i.e. the powers that be don't understand what supporting a football club entails. Is Mr Bell allowed to ref Wednesday games? If not, yeh right.
As Hammers says, bet yer ass Mr Bell would rather ref a game not involving the top four.
Excellent work for bringing this to light. As you and others have said, hopefully he would be professional and honest enough to ref the game properly, but it would be wise for everybody concerned for the appointment to be changed. No brainer.

And look how he's openly mocking us with his yellow shirt! And very clearly no thumbs either - dead cert budgie gene pool.
We're doomed to play-off final defeat, aren't we?

"He could give them 3 pens and send a Charlton player off and McKenna would still complain."
Clown.
Used to be Sheff Utd the Norwich of the North, Wednedsay are rapidly turning Yellow and Green.
They certainly have an impression of us and must read Frimley's posts quite often :)
"So thats refs who are fans of other clubs. - Refs who are scared to disallow goals for fear of stuff being thrown. - Fog - Wet pitches - High winds. - other teams scoring deflections. - that they would walk the championship, but this league doesnt suit their high quality football. - that over 46 games they might struggle but over 1,000 games they would be a country mile clear. - use of mobile phone footage. - Kick off times - the distance they have to travel. - calling games off for international call ups, even though they arent. I must have missed something else, and they say Owls fans are delusional and entitled"

Just getting the excuses in as they have had a dramatic fall from grace and were walking the league 6 weeks ago
Nothing like a bit of neurosis-inducing news for the forum to flounce over for the next 48 hours.
💙 🚜 💙
Allow me to get in first with with a pre-flounce flounce:
The appointment of Bell will be overturned and announced today and then there'll be sublime neuroticism on the forum over the fact that the decision will likely haunt us for years to come.
My thoughts go out to the poor EFL administrator who, despite not having had anything to do with the decision, had to pick up the phone to Mark Ashton this morning.
