Ukraine might have attacked the Kremlin with drones on 13:36 - May 3 with 3076 views | StokieBlue | That would be incredibly impressive given Moscow was generally accepted as having the best air defence network during the cold war - they even claimed they could shoot down nukes (which is highly doubtful). It's currently being modernised but it should be more than sufficient to stop a drone, that's before you discuss range from Ukraine to Moscow and the number of radars it would have flown past. So in summary, it might be true and would be impressive, however it could also be Putin playing games. SB

Tho having a strong air defence didn't stop Mathias Rust landing in Red Square in 1987. Radar systems are generally set up to catch military-sized aircraft and missiles, not small, slow-moving drones. May have been launched from close by, using a team operating within Russia itself.

That entirely depends on the air defence system and the radar, there are plenty which would be able to see drones. The Russians have systems that can do it and they have shot down many drones in Ukraine. "May have been launched from close by, using a team operating within Russia itself." Possible but it would take quite some doing to get that far into Russia with a drone in tow without getting caught. It could be the Ukrainians but it would have taken quite some doing and would look horrible for Russia. SB

A Ukrainian team would have needed to get ~400km into Russia from the closest crossing point whilst transporting a drone large enough to carry a payload to cause damage to the Kremlin. That would be a decent feat. So it could be them, it could also be internal enemies of Putin or the Russian's themselves stirring up things. SB

Does anyone believe that Russia would have allowed a drone to actually reach the Kremlin and that someone would be on the roof of a nearby by building waiting to film it.

I meant more on a long approach from the border if a small drone. Not suited for long-range detection. If you're hopping quadcopter-style drones around a built-up area, there's a lot of cover/clutter to hide in. That didn't look a very big explosion, so probably a small carrying vehicle. Wouldn't surprise me if it was an inside job, either false flag/maskirovka or factional infighting. Doubt Putin was anywhere near the Kremlin at the time. Was it intended to embarrass the military (maybe by Prigozhin)?

There are going to be a lot of cameras pointing at a major public building like the Kremlin all the time. Both cctv and webcams. Plus nowadays anybody, having heard an explosion, can whip their phne out and film in seconds. They might not have been able to stop it. Being in the heart of the capital city, hundreds of miles from the war zone and knowing the Ukrainians don't have strategic aviation, the defences may not have been as alert as all that. A moment's confusion and the attacker gets through.

They'd be more likely to get a highly skilled sniper in and shoot him. I think the longest range recorded sniper kill is over two miles. Far more achievable, at least in theory if not in practice.

It does smack of a poorly-planned attempt. I would reckon it is likely dissidents from within Russia. A very brave thing to do, if so. You do wonder why there hasn't been a realistic attempt on his life. However, the same could be said of Zelensky.

It’s possible. They’ve got roaming units deploying small hand made kamikaze drones. That would be some roaming though, but who knows. As Stokie said, it’s as likely to be Putin manufacturing an excuse to be even more of a tosser.
