Wrexham fan here. It seems to me that Palmer's comments have been blown out of proportion, partly as it involves Wrexham and we're the current clickbait fodder.

Was what he said about Ed Sheeran's involvement at Ipswich ill-informed and inaccurate? Yes (I'm not sure he's the sharpest).

Were his comments malicious? I don't think so, it was just a passing remark about Rob and Ryan's level of involvement at Wrexham.

As usual though, it's easy to take a clip from a podcast, detach it from its original context and spark a bit of outrage.

To the people saying they hate everything about Wrexham, what is it in particular that you object to?

Is it two blokes who have done well for themselves investing in a non-league club and turning the team from perennial underachievers into a success story and doing positive things for the community along the way?

If it's the "media circus", I hardly see how they're to blame for that. That's outside their control.

As for hating the English, my parents and the majority of my family are English so that would be quite the identity crisis. We do boo God Save The Queen/King though a) as it seems to annoy our rivals and b) being subservient to a bloke with a gold hat is a bit weird in 2023.

Maybe some of the Ipswich fans commenting here aren't from the town, because as an Ipswich resident and seeing what the success of the football club is doing for the town and comparing that to what it is doing for Wrexham (and whisper it but Newcastle as well) is just great to see in towns that maybe aren't the best but need a bit of love and their football club is the main thing there and the whole town's mood and success lives and dies by it.

"If it's the "media circus", I hardly see how they're to blame for that. That's outside their control.

I would disagree with that, they have actively fueled the media circus because they need it for their investment

From my memory the netflix documentary also actively promotes you as underdogs. No control of that either?

Gosh, please don't insult us by associating us with Netflix. It's the much more wholesome Disney company showing the documentary. Walt was a top lad and I think it's a disgrace that our club and owners are being incorrectly associated with that other streaming platform by absolutely everyone at Ipswich Town Football Club.

People like you give franchise football a bad name

What is there to despise about Wrexham? A couple of business-savvy high profile ‘Hollywood Stars’ buy a non league club that was saved from ruin and run by its own supporters - and guess what they’ve done an astoundingly good job of promoting the club and the community to the world.

Yes they have spent their way to promotion - which eluded the club for a mere 15 years, rather like Ipswich have themselves - but they’ve also created something of a global phenomenon at a time Ashton is reduced to enthusing about shirt sales as the losses rack up. In an era of gangsters, fraudsters, hedge funds, oil dictatorships and opportunistic ‘syndicates’ most would find a good-looking Hollywood megastar as their cheerleader rather enjoyable, especially if he brings his Mrs along.

Granted it’s overdone if you are not overly interested in Wrexham, or football - but it’s a tad less embarrassing than ‘running towards danger’ with money from a pension fund. Those of a certain age remember Wrexham playing in Europe. They got a bit of publicity back then too.

No reason to despise Wrexham.

Every reason to despite any old idiot with a microphone thinking that he has something to say, and that other people should listen to it.

Yeah, exactly this Joe.

Clubs from the provinces having some success, for a change - be it us, Wrexham or Sunderland (you could add Luton & Coventry into the mix too), it's all pretty good stuff.

Sunderland fairly pertinent, when you look at what they went through with Ellis Short (Marcus Evans MK II) and then the Stuart Donald/ Charlie Methven pantomime.

Exactly, I like the Wrexham story - and yes I know, it's been PR'd to death.

Yes, they have spent a lot of money at that level - but then again, so have we. I'd rather owners like Rob and Ryan that - seemingly - have the town at heart. Compare and contrast with a whole load of owners who are only there to make money.

Have a look at Scunthorpe - they qre liekly to evicted from their ground and training ground tomorrow - both still owned by their former owner - and have fallen from the Championship to National League North in 13 years.

Hi fezbob, I agree about the podcast. It's ignorant and tactless, no question, but I don't see malice. They wanted to celebrate their owners' involvement and awkwardly denigrated another in their attempt to contextualise it. When we consider the brainpower behind the microphones it becomes very forgiveable. And that their comparison was totally misinformed is less embarrassing than Foster's Insta chat afterwards IMO.

Where I disagree, like others, is with your portrayal of the "media circus". Ryan has mined his celebrity from the outset, creating and embracing media content in equal measure. The circus attracted many of your players, who are now scrambling for relevance beyond their Wrexham playing careers. Just look at the podcast and reference to social media within. Media = money, after all. And once money loses impetus, which it certainly will in the Championship if not before, Wrexham's USP is what your owners will hang their hopes on.

I don't dislike Wrexham. I feel the story lost its sheen in battle with founding fathers Notts County, who I'm pleased are now also up, but otherwise there have been more dislikeable disruptors in English football haven't there! Maybe if we ever share a league I'll feel otherwise 😅

I think that's what irks me, it's just taking a pop for no apparent reason at one of the worst targets for it, as they were talking about community engagement.

Shades of the infamous Brighton banner.

Definite Norwich fan. His view of the world is just plain sad. Been quiet lately - I guess it’s a case of swallowing disappointment that the team have been winning. Back in full vitriol today though.

Consistent though - not one positive comment about club.

Has Ben Foster had the decency to apologise yet or can i just file him away as a but of d*ck and somone not to take notice of anymore.

I could almost forgive the mistake on his podcast if he apologised for his idiotic guest. To not apologise when its been pointed out to him would really be a bad look.

The biggest surprise with this is that anybody outside of Wrexham actually cares.

Good luck to them, I wish them no I'll and suspect it will be a long time before we cross swords with them.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I don't see much difference to us. A club who had fallen to below their perceived level and languishing there, the fans suffering for years, apathy, etc. Then really good owners come along and not only provide money for the playing side, but start looking after the stadium, reconnecting the club with the community, etc.

Good luck to them.

I guess this is triggered by the Ollie Palmer quote. It's factually incorrect, but doesn't seem malicious. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if Reynolds, McElhenney and Sheeran are currently exchanging messages laughing about it.
