£1.5 million 10:38 - Jul 13 with 6643 viewsTractorCam

Great deal that, given how much Simms cost Coventry.

Welcome back Hirst!

Another, very long term target in the bag.. Can't imagine all the work that's gone into this one and the Taylor deal.
Well done Ashton and team. Hard work paying off.

still to prove it in the Championship but i really like this signing thought the last 10 games of the season he was very, very good after a slow start.

He needed a league goal, and got it at Bolton in a superb display.... that was his breakthrough game.

The Bolton CB (whose name I have forgotten) had a reputation as one of the best in L1... Hirst completely dominated him in every aspect.

I honestly thought it would be a lot more than that even upfront.

Incredible piece of business.

Even better deal considering the great partnerships he had with Wes, Leif, Chappers and Broady, those link ups and connections would be an unknown with a new, new signing. GH does so much on and off the ball to create space and chances for others in and around the box. With Jack Taylor's ability outside the box, I can't wait to see the team in Championship league action against much tougher opposition than last season.

I think there is a real significance in both the Taylor and Hirst signings. These are both players that KM has identified from day 1, that he'd like to have at his disposal. Even if they took a season or more to complete permanent deals. It just sends out a huge signal, that we will back the manager. Give him what he asks for.

The trust building exercise, here, between Club and manager, should not be underestimated, imo.

Great bit of business at that price. I know Simms is younger and has a better record at this level, but is he really worth four times as much? Not convinced.

Very pleased with the fee here.

It's the sensible going rate for a good L1 striker, when you factor in the price increase that follows subsequent negotiation between Championship clubs. He should never have entered the price category of those with Championship track records and no doubt Leicester will be similarly happy.

Having watched his form for us last season, not at all concerned by his lack of championship goals. He's clearly a player who takes a few games to get up to speed and he's only been given bit part roles with no consistent game time. We saw what he could do when he was up to speed last season. Think he'll be worth 10x this fee in a years time.

that goal at Bolton was my favorite goal of the season, the technique to score that goal was a different level to Ladapo and that's not me putting him down, i just don't think he could have scored that goal.

I actually thought against MK Dons was where he started to look like a player who was going to be useful, and as you say the goal helped him.

Hey... steady on... better than Sears?!

I was just thinking of a random striker for us in the championship....who had a spell of being ok..

Right now i reckon only Murphy would be better than Hirst.

Who else did we have? Noel someone.

Tamas Priskin cost more 14 years ago!

Noel Hunt is the man you're thinking of.

Chaplin flourished in a team with Hirst and Broadhead. They both create so much space in their own ways - Broadhead especially.

This is a great deal and an important one at this time to bring the feeling of momentum to a group that gave so much to achieve success last year.

I don’t know his final level, he is still pretty young, seems fit and works hard which means we can improve him. I’m sure he also has the appetite to play higher which will provide the motivation we need to tap into.

From a fans perspective the squad really is looking familiar and in good shape. It’s a stage where 1-2 additions this window would be icing for the cake; attacking midfield and centre back.

The squad shape/depth allows for further targeted additions over the following window or two to keep progressing.
