Great deal that, given how much Simms cost Coventry.

Welcome back Hirst!

Great signing and a great price. Let's hope we end up paying £3m for him.

still to prove it in the Championship but i really like this signing thought the last 10 games of the season he was very, very good after a slow start.

He took his chances really well last year. Still the same football and goals. I see no reason why he won't be a success at championship level. Better striker than Sears etc.

The guy has a lot to prove and seeing from last season how he worked under KMcK , I personally think he can only get better and in a better league

Long term he could transform into a very very good striker - hopefully Prem bound too with us !

Indeed! Let's hope he carries on from where he left off last season.

I thought the fee would be higher, but realistically, he is untested in the championship as yet. I think with our set up he will do well, but we should remember that in other teams he hasn't set the world alight at this level. So the fee is a small gamble i reckon. .

People still need to understand what KM wants from players in that role.

Yes, 'scoring' is important but that isn't the only attribute that that role needs. Hirst fits the role so so well.

So, when you ask, can he do it at this level? What do you mean?

For me, at Champ level he absolutely can continue where he left off last season....will he score 25 goals? That is secondary to what he bring to the team and the many others players that will benefit from the way he plays.

Shame we don't play Leicester last game of the season. Assuming they had promotion all wrapped up by then and with nothing to play for, losing to us could have been worth £1.5M to them.

Largely cos of McKenna. Basically McKenna’s wage pays for itself in transfer savings innit.

That's more than a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

I think Joe posted yesterday about his appearances so far in the Championship adding up to something like ten full games! And ten full games at a younger age, as a bit part player, and not under the tutelage of McKenna et al.

You just can't make the judgement 'History says no' on that basis. Plain daft.

That's amazing money at this level.

I'm wondering if something was flagged in the medical and there was a little renegotiation with upfront fees vs appearances

Even better deal considering the great partnerships he had with Wes, Leif, Chappers and Broady, those link ups and connections would be an unknown with a new, new signing. GH does so much on and off the ball to create space and chances for others in and around the box. With Jack Taylor's ability outside the box, I can't wait to see the team in Championship league action against much tougher opposition than last season.
