Left footed CB, fits mould for what we want

Loan to Rangers has just fallen through and linked with Coventry (where he spent last season on loan), Cardiff and WBA by Darren Witcoop

Wouldn’t surprise me if one we now look at

I dont get why we are dragging our heels over signing a CB we are clearly needing one, yet since McNally it's gone deathly quiet on the subject. Panzo would have been ideal. Left footed too, just what we want.

'We'? You need a right back to replace Aarons you silly billy.

Might be the right player with the correct skillset but as we all know we won't have or go for players with the wrong attitude or go for a player who doesn't want to be here - I don't know if either were the issue but there's always a valid reason right ?

Things aren't sometimes as easy as some imagine

Off to Cardiff according to NTT20.

One we should've been after imo.

Don't think we'd have found it too tough to compete with Cardiff. Hopefully a sign that we've someone we think is better in the pipeline?

I think sometimes us as supporters look for excuses as to why we aren't signing these players. I'm not saying this isn't the case occasionally, but l do wonder if selling the project is proving a lot harder now we are in the championship?

Yep, fingers crossed as we seem to be struggling to get deals over the line - feels like we may be going into the loan market

My best guess is that he’s been on our list, but Cardiff can guarantee more playing time (i.e. nailed on starter every week)

Could be we thought we could get a target higher up the list (Trusty/McNally?) and other clubs were already 'down the line' themselves with players that we could potentially turn to.

A total hunch, just feels like we are struggling to get deals done - and as you get closer to end of window there tends to be less permanent deals done

Think there's a lot more money around this summer than last with some big sales. Coventry and Bristol have cash along with parachute sides. Millwall, Birmingham, Boro and Sunderland as well.

I think we need to sort out some scouting abroad. Could get better value for money there and probably less competition

The issue is more that we have competition for the types of players we're after now. Nobody else in League 1 was going to pay £750k for Cameron Burgess, but the likes of Auston Trusty ended up having Prem interest, and McNally ultimately had other established Championship sides in for him as well. It's not really about selling the project, these players can see we're on an upward trajectory, but when they have multiple options that alone isn't necessarily going to be the deciding factor for them.

Isn't this move to Cardiff a loan? Maybe that is the reason we haven't pursued it as we want that CB position to be permanent. I imagine one of the attacking/RW spots we are looking at will be a loan and I suspect we wouldn't want any more than 2.

Why are we struggling to get deals done? Let’s hope we don’t panic like last year and end up with Ahadme and an injured Camara…

Only wanting players who improve our squad is a very tricky benchmark to set. I don't think they are interested in signing stop gaps and would agree loans in the short-term might be the way forward.

We already own those two players so it's unlikely we'll buy them again

Were looking into Bashir Humphreys on loan from Chelsea as well apparently.

Fishing in a different pool now with lots of big competition.

Definitely struggling to land top targets, but lets see.

I hope we at least have plans to expand our scouting network to Europe at some point.

Can’t see where loans are the answer. If we want players who will improve the squad we want them to be ours, not improve everybody else’s players.

It feels like it was easier last year, or at least in January - I'd be amazed if the likes of Clarke, Luongo and Broadhead didn't have Championship interest.

If they had concrete Championship interest they'd have ended up in the Championship.

Agreed.

I think it's more a case of we're arriving in a season where more teams have fiscal headroom to 'go for it' and there's been some fresh takeovers/investments to boot.
