To separate upper and lower. Seems a bit overkill!

After they brought in the tape to keep the two tiers apart last season this seemed inevitable to me.

This sort of stuff won't be done without agreement of the Safety Advisory Group and may even have come on advice from them.

Yeah always thought there would be a more permanent structure but just seems a bit much

Not exactly the Berlin wall Sitters. Those North Stand Nans can be pretty feisty too so if it placates them all the better I say.

Was a tight enough squeeze down there at HT as it was, now even more restricted. I’ve said for years they should open the doors and let people stand outside at HT.

Used to be much much worse before games about 2.45. Was heaving down there, to dangerous levels at times I would say!

Club can’t be blamed for this as there were repeated warnings about people overfilling the lower stand and thus had to act.

It’s been implemented since last season to be fair, was always going to be a more permanent barrier fitted but this seems way too much!

When we were getting 15,000-20,000 I know people who would meet their mates downstairs in Lower as there would always be available seats. Now that it's usully full I assume it's just to stop mingling/overflow at half time?

Not sure there's a much better way of doing it that actually achieves what it needs. It would be good if they put some decals/imagery on the partitions but physically are there better options?

Even when full people would still squeeze in! A few to a seat when standing.

Something needed to done of course, a poor design of stand from the start, not many places where upper and lower go in the same turnstiles!

But now half the people so much better and more room. Also more chance of being served at the bar!

It’s fine , had to have a more secure barrier than before.

As others have said, in an era of 29,000+ crowds, things will change because of safety recommendations. See also the changes to main car park entry/exit times.

At least it will stop those rowdies going upstairs and spoiling the atmosphere!!!

All seems sensible, in a full stand you can’t have random numbers piling into bottom or top for practical and safety reasons. I’ve not sat in the North for a few years now but at times the power was difficult enough to move around that’s when we’d get half the crowd!

That sounds the obvious solution to me.

You could also have it as a smoking area - never been a smoker myself but feels a bit overkill that nowhere in the ground for people to smoke during the game

they have also introduced a clear glass/perspex barrier to the front row of the visiting fans section (to prevent fans straying onto roof of exec boxes i guess)

….totally backfired.

It’s now at the perfect height for fans to stand at and lean on.

The whole front row of Stoke fans stood there last week.

The stewards just left them to it.

Enduringly lovable, intelligent and thunderingly exquisite.

Agreed. If you say go to cricket you can wander in and out by waving your ticket (usually scanned) so it’s perfectly do-able at football grounds. I get the numbers are different but the principle is sound.

One of the reasons I quite like the West Stand is that you can have a half time mooch around the old training pitch area.

I wonder if this is a bit of a test run for the rumoured move of away fans to Sir Alf Lower. Separate turnstiles and staircases and all that. Plus the new open area where Staples was to take away fans to and from the station.
