I could be wrong, but something tells me McKenna would be the type who likes club management too much to want to do international assignments.

Bloke at work the other day was demanding Big Micks return..
For my own amusement I mentioned what an excellent job Mckenna was doing in comparison to Mick. I suggested that if the FAI had any kinda forward thinking they should do everything in their power to try an get him, not that he'd be tempted. He just shocked his head and said he'd never heard of him

I suggest he doesn't sign his application "Keno", though.

Since we get an international break, there is no reason why McKenna couldn't take on the Ireland job in his spare time.

I think Sir Alex Ferguson did that at one point, managed Scotland while also in charge of Aberdeen.

Indeed, Phil fount of all football knowledge:

'Ferguson had been part of the coaching staff for the Scottish national side during qualifying for the 1986 World Cup, but manager Jock Stein had collapsed and died on 10 September 1985 – at the end of the game in which Scotland qualified from their group for a play-off against Australia. Ferguson promptly agreed to take charge of the Scottish national side against the Australians and subsequently at the World Cup. To allow him to fulfil his international duties he appointed Archie Knox as his co-manager at Aberdeen. However, after Scotland failed to progress past the group stages of the World Cup, Ferguson stepped down as national team manager on 15 June 1986'

Something in the back of my mind said that Mark Hughes did the same thing for Wales. But when I checked, he was actually still playing for Everton while managing Wales (and also once played for Bayern Munich and Wales on the same day)

If I was head man in the FAI I’d look to interview Steven Schumacher. No chance of getting McKenna(who I wouldn’t want) so I’d check if Schumacher was interested.

Would have been somewhat more attractive with Rice and Grealish turning out for them.

Thank f**k for that!!! We surely couldn't do any worse..could we?

Nothing against Kenny, bar winning 6 out of 29 competitive games, no idea what the strategy was bar passing sideways, massive gaps between the defence and forward line, scoring first and then retreating behind the goal line, our rankings falling like a stone but of course its down to player pool.

I for one back Keno's application and happy to help with MSPaint tactics boards as needed. #rantoff

Bobby Robson had a consultant role with RoI in the disasterous Steve Staunton era. His name was put forward as manager at the time but he was very unwell.

If the FAI don't push the boat out for Lee Carsley, whoever's at the helm is utterly clueless.
