One thing I felt about last night 09:40 - Dec 30 with 5863 viewsGuthrum

If QPR didn't have Asmir Begovic in goal, we'd have won that. He is a good quality 'keeper and made some excellent saves - diverting Ladapo's shot with his leg, tipping Hutchinson's one over the bar. Plus claiming loose balls you see a lot of goalies at this level punching or missing altogether.

We can't entirely concentrate on the Ipswich side of the equation.

I also think (based on both games) that Sinclair Armstrong could be extremely effective in a better team.

(Two ... two things I felt about last night ...)

He was, but it rather summed up the ref that after adding on 8 minutes he then blew as soon as that 8 minutes was up when Begovic had successfully wasted about 4 of those 8 minutes without really getting a serious talking to.

Not that it made a difference but at the end of the 1st half a minute was announced shortly before QPR had a goal kick, Begovic wasted at least 30 seconds messing about before taking it then the ref blew before we'd even had the full minute anyway.

Don't think we'll ever see the day a GK gets 2 yellows for time wasting but if that's the case then the time added on should be more punitive. I appreciate time wasting is as much (if not more) about disrupting momentum than running the clock down but it's pretty stupid really that, after time is added on, the GK is allowed to waste as much of it as he likes with no repercussion.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I thought we might finally get a keeper receiving 2 yellows for time wasting. He was sailing very close to the wind by the end.

It would’ve been bloody brilliant, especially as they had used all their subs, ref should’ve shown some bottle.

He was never going to book him a 2nd time for time wasting, he was a complete bottle job and lacked the control that a ref should have... Saying that, we got away with 2 penalty shouts against us in the 2nd half... So every cloud has a silver lining and all that

I'm not convinced it will happen, however justified. There would be a massive storm directed at the Ref (and refs in general) for sending off such a crucial player over something many fans see as fair tactics - on the occasions their team is holding on for a win/draw.

Then they shouldn’t get a booking.

Don’t understand this logic.

Unfortunately, once a keeper has been booked for timewasting, they know the threshold for a second yellow is going to be higher than the first and they will surely get a further warning too. There needs to be more time added on for it like there was at the start of the season. With the two lengthy stoppages for treatment, multiple substitutions, and constant time wasting, 8 minutes didn't seem long enough! However, we didn't look likely to score even if there had been 15 minutes.

Begovic had a good game, unfortunately. The time wasting from him was League 1 level mind you and the ref was piss weak at dealing with it. QPR looked like they were content with a point for much of the game, understandably so, and you can't help but wonder what might have happened had Freddie scored one of the early one on ones.

They created plenty themselves. We weren’t exactly knocking the door down for 90 minutes.

I thought it was a fairly even game. Chair looked a handful. Neither keeper made a save I wouldn't expect them to make but QPR hit the post and had a good shout for a penalty.

Could have easily been a game either side nicked. I don’t think we done enough to win the game really. Seen penalties given for less.

They had that header from the corner that hit the post and the one Armstrong poked towards the near post that was a straightforward save, not sure they created much else really? We weren't knocking on the door consistently either but we had two one on ones and Harness had a good chance that forced a good reaction save from Begovic. A draw was fair enough but thought we had the better chances despite not being at our best.

They seemed to settle for a point later but to be honest a braver team might have won it at the end if they ran at us. Humphrey’s was unsurprisingly gassed, LW on a booking and walking a type rope, we were struggling with our passing all night.

Maybe but the fact is they created very little. Struggling to think of another chance beyond the two half chances I've mentioned above. They definitely settled for a point from fairly early on and we were the ones still trying to press but there was too much rustyness and fatigue for us to create as much as we usually do but we still had three good opportunities that you'd expect us to take one of.

They were the better team first half, they didn’t cause too many problems second half but still had some pressure and corners as well as a very decent penalty shout.

Most days the Jackson handball is a spot kick. They didn't cease trying to create something but they were definitely happy to waste time and happy with a point.

That's still no additional chances that you can recall from them though. Even the handball shout was an overhit cross that's hit Jackson's outstretched arm. It wasn't like Berra in the play offs. As I said, we weren't at our best but all the good chances in the game were ours. Aside from the header from the corner and Armstrong's tame effort, both half chances really, I'm struggling to think of other chances they carved out. Draw was a reasonable outcome all things considered but felt if anyone deserved the win it was probably us on the balance of chances.

Outside of the Harness chance we didn’t have much second half either. We were more positive than them as the game was winding down I agree.

Ilias Chair was the one causing us problems. I wouldn’t say no to seeing him in our lineup alongside Chappers.

I wouldn't want him. Seemed like a very selfish player that thinks they are better than they are. Easier, better balls on and but would hold onto the ball way too long by trying to get themselves into into a better shooting position, and either running out of room or blazing over.

If my memory serves me correctly we had Begovic on loan when he was a relatively young keeper. Thought he was really good then.

The problem is there is nothing concrete in the rules to define "time wasting". If the keeper has the ball in their hands it is clear - six seconds - but for free kicks, corner kicks and so on there is nothing to help the referee make a clear call. Do you send someone off when the laws of the game are unclear - no chance.

It is one of a number of messes that are the LoTG. Have a look at how many cards you can have if dissent sin bins are played, three yellow cards and in one circumstance a red follows but in another it doesn't. How about two yellows and you can sub the player who must be withdrawn but who doesn't receive a red? How about handball? Or have you read the definition between a reckless yellow and dangerous red card - almost impossible to understand the difference.

Compare this to futsal: For kick-ins, free-kicks, goal clearances and corner kicks, the player in possession of the ball has four seconds to restart play which the referee will count with their fingers in the air. If play isn't restarted within four seconds an indirect free-kick will be awarded to the opposing team.

I totally agree - he was walking around when he didn't have the ball and looked like he required treatment after being asked to sprint in the middle of the first half. But the best example was that episode with Williams when Williams was trying to prove he could get the better of Chair by taking him left and right with the ball rather than passing - when Chair actually won the ball from him, he then decided to take a shot from distance rather than play in a better placed teammate - no better example of two players not playing for the collective...

Town and QPR were equally crap the whole game, imho.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed it even though it was scrappy. Friday night under the lights innit. Fooootball. Shame about the clueless day trippers abusing our players but that's been done.
