Watson may be incorrect on El Miz current form 15:08 - Jan 5 with 3838 viewsunstableblue

In the article in which Stuart Watson talks about Town rejecting low six figure bids for Orient loanee El Miz, he states:

“The 23-year-old has played a starring role at Leyton Orient over the last 18 months, helping them secure the League Two title before returning on another season-long loan and taking on the captain's armband in League One.”

Having spoke to my Orient spies/mates they tell a somewhat different story

He’s struggled for recent games and is finding the League One level challenging at times and the captaincy has been shortlived.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

I’m a big fan of El Miz and been suggesting he returns

And indeed when I got the WhatsApp informing of this poor recent form, I did suggest his reply was misinformation - he protested

El Miz defo not been captain in recent games, but seems to keep getting 90mins

I just think that he’d been outstanding MOTM last season and in earlier League One games this campaign

Had just looked on their forum, he was described as never having a bad game and was in the discussion for their player of the season (so far) but not in their top 2

That's a pretty strange assessment on the face of it.

He's started 24/25 league games, including all of the last three games (from which Orient have got 7/9 points). He has the most league minutes of any player at the club and seems to have just relinquished the captaincy when regular club captain Darren Pratley came back into the side.

Can't speak to his performances, but Fotmob has him as their best player (per match ratings) and top or 2nd for all the big stats you'd expect a defensive midfielder to be top for (ie. passes completed, tackles, interceptions). Leyton Orient are also 4-6 places higher than pre-season expectations.

That they're trying to make it a permanent deal probably tells you what you need to know about his performances.

Season ticket holder, met El Miz and chatted to him at players dinner.

Rabid fan. Knows his stuff.

Has sent me regular updates and to date has always waxed lyrical about him - hence my often raised suggestion we bring him back.

But he’s just sharing that his form has dropped away, and he’s struggled of late.

He knows what he’s talking about.

Note: my post was not intended to trigger anyone!! Just sharing an insight.

Most of those clubs have been looking at him for a while. Wycombe tried to sign him in January 2022 after being impressed with him in an U23s friendly. Their head of recruitment is Scott Mitchell, who was working in the academy here until the summer.

Factually untrue.

Apart from the Bolton (circa 23 mins) game he's averaged over 80 mins for the last 15 games.

He’s playing regularly and as stated multiple recent posts they rotate players around him.

But his form has been good of late, according to Orient contact, he has previously waxed lyrical about him.

Reality is he's not a a barnstorming, fan favourite type of player particularly. At L2 level he was probably playing well above that standard and stood out. He stands out less in L1. Hes good at what he does, neat and tidy and can win back possession.

He's become something more than he probably is in fans minds because we have a soft spot for him and one of our youths. You put Dom Ball in that L2 orient side and he would have been outstanding. Dom has got the opposite way for us (he's not Morsy when he has played so suddenly a worse player than he is).

We have Travis now. If he does well can see that being permanent. El Miz isn't coming back and the fact we are willing to sell tells you McKenna thinks we need more.

Hope he has a brilliant career mind!

Maybe there wasn't as much interest as we all thought at the time but should have sold him in the summer when his value was maximised.

An OK season in L1 has probably shown his limitations. Under Evans we'd probably still all be pinning our hopes on him making it here but most could see there is too much in front of him now to ever be a regular at Town.

Really no idea. I suspect Town will be pushing for £500,000 but none of these clubs have very much money.

Think he meant to say struggled in recent games rather than struggled for. Still Orient's best player this season statistically and 58th in L1 (out of 500+ players), would likely be scoring higher in a better side, so unsurprising to hear bids are coming in.

I would be happy to sell for as much as possible.

He has proven he can be a regular in a side that is 12 in League 1 having been a regular in the League 2 title winning side. He couldn't get into a team that had just finished 11th in League 1 before that. What makes you think his value was higher before he had shown he is a good League 1 player? I would expect the fee we would accept now would be similar to what we would have accepted in the summer. If no one offers it, he will go out on loan again I would imagine.

As the best player there was hype around him, headlines, longer on his contract. Championship clubs sniffing around as well as L1

Now he's seen as a good solid league one player who has found his level, short is the memory in football. L1 clubs bidding low 6 figs

See what you're saying but it would have needed concrete interest from Championship clubs, and the jump between these two divisions is huge. L2 is much worse than L1. The biggest transfer fee paid by L1 clubs this summer looks to have been £300-400K. If I owned a Championship club I'd be wanting to see if he had the ability for L1 first, at the second time of asking, or offering a maximum of a few hundred K on what would have been a big punt.

Good of you to share and I don't think you've triggered people. I had a skim of the first few pages of the Orient forum just now because I'm nosy and your mate is very much a lone voice. My guess is he thought they had a superstar on their hands and has yet to recalibrate to the correct level, as forum consensus remains that El Miz is the best player in a bottom half team (ability-wise).

Debate centres on whether he's currently a top 8 L1 player or capable of surviving in the Championship, and whether or not he's peaked already. This is likely a bucket of cold water for any fan that was waxing lyrical over the fella not long ago.

Watson may be incorrect on El Miz current form on 08:48 - Jan 6 with 1500 viewsdirtyboy

He's playing in a mid table L1 team, one of the best peforming players from a club outside of the top 6 that are a long way ahead of the rest of the pack.

He's mobile, accurate and actually a good carrier of the ball.

Could he play in the Championship? More than likely.

Will that be for Ipswich? Doesn't seem likely, but he may get another chance close season....stranger things have happened in football.

I don't think he's strong or fast enough to play top 6 Championship level, but he's got enough quality that if he continues to improve in other aspects that he can move up a league surrounded by generally better players and not look out of place. Seen worse players in this league.

It's the perception of potential that changes isn't it.

He doest look the same investment now. As I say it may be there was less interest that we were lead to belive in the summer but it was clear he wasn't going to play for town so I just think we should have cashed in then
