Mowbray would tell him to jump at a chance to play at Portman Road. Veno too. They know what we have got going on here.

Expect Mowbray is far more concerned with convincing him and Fulham he should stay at Birmingham than convincing him to come here.

His recall window is this week. He’s now changed his profile back to Fulham and picture to a Fulham kit. We will be seeing him later today no doubts.

I was told at Stoke that a deal was done for a striker and they would be in before the Sunderland game. But they would not say who it was so it could have been that Brighton fella, but just seems strange they said they would be here for Sunderland which sounds like someone who could not come straight away.

It has to be a no brainer for both Jay and Fulham for him to come here, they know our style, they know our manager, our position in the League and they know he will start.

Jay doing another half season at a struggling side who have not developed a playing style yet would seem like madness

Would be surprised it’s not sooner if, as it seems, he’s said goodbye to Birmingham

Without getting carried away, if he was to come here would people be disappointed if it was a loan? For me yes, unless there’s an opportunity or stipulation to buy in the summer.

At this point I'd just be happy to get him in to be honest. Would much prefer a permanent deal but if Fulham are only willing to loan him to us then I'd rather have him through the door on loan than not have him at all.

I don't understand this obsession with Stansfield. A lot of fans seem to think he'd be an amazing signing so I am not saying my opinion carries much weight. But he's scored 16 in 59 last 2 seasons which is not prolific. He has 15 yellow cards in that time which for a striker is a lot so suggests could be quite petulant.

I would of thought the profile of player we'd be looking at would be in a similar mould of George Hirst. If we sign him he'll have my full support and I'd like to be proved wrong, I just don't understand how he is most fans number 1 target. I certainly would not put him in the same bracket as the Marcus Stewart signing which some have suggested.

Compare Stansfield's record on loan in the Championship to Hirst's record at the same age and then get back to us.

Seven goals this season in a side that has been pretty stodgy is, at 21, plenty of evidence he's got something. Not sure he offers the out and out centre-forward presence Hirst does and I do think we'll need someone else who can provide that. But if Stansfield came in (and goodness knows, frankly) it would be a good development.

That is a lazy response. Hirst's attributes are integral to McKenna's style and the way he sets his team up. Hirst is in the team for a lot more than just his goals (and assists if you now want to quote those numbers). Stansfield is more of a smaller diminutive striker. I am not saying he is bad, I just don't understand the excitement around him. But I hope I am wrong and if he signs and bangs in 20 goals for us between now and May.

How many goals has Hirst scored over a similar period? How important is Hirst to our overall play? Why do you think Stansfield is not a similar profile? You still seem to be obsessed with striker goals, how long is it going to take to get through to some? Its been two years now!

Your opinion carries as much weight as anyone's. I think the remit for our number 9 position isn't just about scoring goals. Of course you want your forward scoring, but Hirst's contribution is way bigger than that in terms of his work rate out of possession, pressing the opposition and his movement in the final 3rd which creates space and opportunities for those around him. I don't care who scores our goals as long as someone does and we outscore the opposition. I think that's why Hirst is such a blow, it's less about his 12-15 goals a season. Its no coincidence that we've looked less threatening since Hirst has been out, against 2 opponents you wouldn't otherwise have expected us to draw blanks against.

All that said I think Stansfield can score goals too, he's a really good finisher.

Why is it you don't expect goals from Hirst but you would expect them from Stansfield? He's a good footballer who can link up play as well and can operate off the striker as well as playing as a 9. He's not small either, he's over 6 foot, albeit he's a bit more wiry than Hirst.

Yes, I do not disagree with anything you have written. He would be a good signing (because we need more than 1 more new attacker). My point that is getting overlooked is he is not a natural replacement for Hirst and I do not think McKenna will be wanting to change the way we play to accommodate Stansfield as Hirsts replacement in a starting 11.
Lets just say we managed to sign Keiffer Moore (which I know wont happen) and Stansfield then I'd consider that I great window, however if we just signed stansfield as a striker I would consider it a bad window.
