Travis to start against Sunderland? 08:33 - Jan 9 with 10935 viewsDubtractor

McKenna doesn't tend to make a habit of throwing players in at the deep end, but we can't play at the tempo we need with Ball playing, and McKenna seems reluctant to pair Luongo and Taylor.

Really hoping that Davis is back as he's so important to how we play, and feels like an important game to win to keep things ticking over.

I reckon Travis will start. Although he's been a bit out of favour at Blackburn he'll be match fit and the CM role here isn't that different to what he's been used to playing. It sounds like he's good in the tackle and covers well, which we will need against both Sunderland and Leicester, and I'm not sure any of our other CMs offers that to the same extent.

Definitely not one I'd want to go into without all of Morsy, Hirst and Davis, although it does seem there's a real risk of that. Sunderland are capable of pretty much anything, at either extreme. Looks currently like a clash of two lively sides without proper strikers and we need something to move the dial. To answer your post – I think it's a good one to start Travis in if deemed ready, Sunderland usually have a lot of the ball and some teeth in there would be welcome. Ekwah can be a physical presence in there for them too.

What makes you think he's match fit despite being out of favour at Blackburn? Not a dig, a genuine question, because that statement appears to contradict itself.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

He's been pretty involved for them tbf even if out of the starting XI most weeks recently. Started on 23 Dec and got 45 minutes on Boxing Day. I suspect he'd be good to go.

He's still been getting minutes, if not starting every week, and he's made 20 appearances overall this season. He's had considerably more minutes than the likes of Taylor and Ball, who are our other options.

Interesting. My impression (without knowing the stats) was that he was completely out of favour there. Clearly not.

It's all relative really, he's their club captain so going from being a nailed on starter to mainly a bench option and occasional starter is him being out of favour. Similar to if Morsy was to go from being first name on the team sheet to coming on for half an hour here, we'd see him as having fallen out of favour.

I assume Travis was brought in to start and play Morsy's role, something we desperately need alongside someone who can actually play George Hirsts and it doesn't look like we'll have that person in time and intending to limp along with what we have on Saturday, which for me will be throwing points away as neither Ladapo or Jackson can play that role in this division.

What evidence do you have that it "doesn't look like we'll have that person in time and (are) intending to limp along with what we have"?

If he’s fit (which you’d assume he is) I’d start Travis - he’s vastly experienced in the Championship- exactly the type of experience we need.

I actually discovered a Blackburn fan at work yesterday. He was livid with his board/owners for letting him go. Said he’s an excellent player and thinks we’ve pulled off quite a coup. Thought it was quite interesting he also said ‘at least he didn’t go to a rival’ (I.e thinks we are well above Rovers and not a direct competitor- quite the compliment given how quickly we’ve surpassed solid Championship teams).

Yep he'll surely start. We'll lose if we start the midfield that he went with vs. QPR.

Why you attracted the usual culprits that police this forum with the usual insults for stating the obvious i.e. that we have no decent replacement for Hirst, is why most Town fans do not use this forum.

Depends on fitness I guess - only the staff will be able to make that judgement call.

Fully fit, I would start Travis.

100% he starts, I will be amazed if he doesn't. To me it looks like he was signed with the next two games very much in mind, although not just the next two as I expect him and Morsy to be the first choice pair a lot of the time going forward.

I really hope Davis is back also. For as well as Humphreys has done, we definetly lose a lot going forward when Leif is not playing

No, he's attracted criticism because he said "it doesn't look like we'll have that person in time and intending to limp along with what we have on Saturday" when it's only Tuesday morning. We have no idea what will happen between now and Friday.

That is stating the obvious.
