Of the players signed by Cookie "that summer" on 17:50 - Jan 11 by FrimleyBlue | Sold for a profit. But we'd have spent a fair bit on wages for a player who didn't play... you'd say we basically broke even wouldn't you? |
Not sure Fraser was sold at a profit. I thought we paid about £750k for him, but we sold him for about £300k? I dont think we got a bargain, given the way he had played for MK the previous season, whilst I dont see any reason why Charlton (of all clubs) would have overpaid for a player who we couldnt fit in and wanted to leave. Then there are the wages too.

Of the players signed by Cookie "that summer" on 18:47 - Jan 11 by WicklowBlue | Surely signings aren't just a binary between great and bad? Surely Bonne would fit into the ok/good category? |
I dunno. For me it's either a signing that worked out or didn't. Someone who was good for a few months isn't really a good signing. Unless however you've signed them as a short term loan in January and they have a massive effect on your season. Ala hirst had he not signed perm anyway.

Let's have it right, some of these deemed hits now are down to McKenna not Ashton.

Of the players signed by Cookie "that summer" on 19:16 - Jan 11 with 1382 views | olimar | I remember thinking at the time that it felt likely that about a third of them would be really good players, a third would be able to do a decent enough job and a third wouldnt be up to it. Which meant we probably didnt have enough of them to get a decent squad together, given that we were going to get injuries and that we also had several trying to compete for the same position, whilst didnt have enough options in others. It felt inevitable that first season wasnt going to work too well (despite my optimism that it would). THe realisation that Cook had seemingly no idea how to fit them in and a reluctance to change anything to try and accomodate them, made that even more likely. But to an extent, he was already fighting a bit of an uphill battle- not that that should be any sort of mitigation anyway, since he was the one who decided he wanted to play "demolition man" and blow up the previous squad because he couldnt get anything out of that either. It wasnt a great strategy for recruitment really, although I suppose it allowed us to spend a year working out which ones were no good and then effectively try and sort it out in the next few windows.

Of the players signed by Cookie "that summer" on 17:54 - Jan 11 by FrimleyBlue | Absolutely if it were a 6 month loan. It wasn't. So its bad. |
If we only loaned him for the games he was good in then it would have been one helluva bit of business! A poor second half to the season probably means it wasn't great. Not bad, not good. Middling, you could.say

Just ended up a pointless loan in the end which was unfortunate. Would have loved him to have become a club hero.

Of the players signed by Cookie "that summer" on 16:35 - Jan 11 by Steve_M | You missed Evans, although easy to forget as he's been injured for most of his time here and also on the way out. It was scattergun as fk that Summer, a pretty poor success rate despite a lot of money spent, Fraser and Piggot are two of the worst signings of the whole banter era. [Post edited 11 Jan 2024 16:36]

Fraser could have come good in the right set up given time*. Piggot was just totally poor and never looked like he could do it. Harsh to put them in the same bracket in my opinion. *Completely right call to let him go, however.

I think Ladapo’s 17 goal contribution last season could see him move into hit but other than that and your suggestions, I don’t think this is too far off.

Only Chaplin will have a value really. Morsy would if it wasn't for his age Walton.. not sure if his stock is higher than it was when he joined us. Hladky you'd imagine yes but then age might go against him. Altho this isn't fifa so he's not that old. Burns would be higher value obviously [Post edited 11 Jan 2024 23:08]

Paul Cook will always be a special moment in the history of the club. Those who criticise the Demolition Job are pure ballbags. Yes he failed. Not the first not the last manager. He had to go. But.....it is a very big but. He'd open a new chapter for us. He did purge our changing room. He did clean it by eliminating a changing room from the rotten Skuse/Chambers culture.....very rotten culture....nice and easy payday Ipswich culture. These days and what we are seeing from our players. A different world. Playing for the wages they get. [Post edited 11 Jan 2024 23:09]
