Keep the faith 16:13 - Feb 18 with 2593 views | Herbivore | I've seen a lot of people comment when last season's epic run in is mentioned that doing it at this level will be really, really tough, and that is of course correct. Worth noting though that our first 14 games this season yielded 11 wins, 2 draws, and 1 defeat for a total of 35 points. Match that again at the end of the season and we'll finish on 101 points and I'd be staggered if that's not enough for second place. It's going to be hard, we've got some tricky fixtures to come, but our experience of going on extended runs to close out the season coupled with the confidence that we can do so at this level will be a huge plus psychologically over the coming months.

Leeds and Southampton were stumbling around for form early doors but they look relentless. now. 4 teams could finish on 100+ points.

I think we had our blip at the wrong time, in that, Southampton and Leeds then really kicked on and went up a gear, having been less than convincing earlier on in the season... I call it a blip, but we still didn't lose an awful lot in that time and similar to last season it was draws that were costing us... It's one of those where you question whether in that run you'd have lost a few more and won a few, instead of so many draws and whether we'd be better off as a result, but I think not losing is a good trait

There is nothing wrong with having faith in a team on 66 points after 32 games that’s lost only 4 games all season. It may be unlikely given how well the competition is playing, but it is possible. Why not? It may disappoint you, but our team is a good one. Delusion is thinking the football world should be halcyon place it once was - Local business men and rich people owning clubs like little fiefdoms, sepia coloured football, flat caps, Sheffield Wednesday players taking a bribe, people knowing their place, Churchmans sh£thouse steaming out of both ends on a cold day from the fetid trough, players paid a pittance and happy with it along with a sponge of freezing water from an ARP bucket down the shorts when injured. Insanity is wanting those days back - despite my love of 70s football, music, fashion and window cake. [Post edited 18 Feb 2024 17:01]

They do eat some rubbish in France. Garden pests in shells, chopped up animal heads in jelly. Maybe Mr Happy has chewed on a few too many eyeballs. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The one win in nine was a killer. If only we could have turned a couple of those draws into wins we would still be second.

Keep the faith on 17:23 - Feb 18 with 2218 views | _clive_baker_ | Definitely every reason to have a lot of faith, regardless of how this season shakes out. But you're also right that faith in finishing top 2 should absolutely still be there. Ultimately if you distil this now to a 14 game 'mini season', if we do what we did in the first 14 of the season we'll add another 35 points to our tally and finish on 101. Of course you would get very good odds on us achieving 2.5ppg from here, but it's not like we aren't capable of winning these games. Big week coming up, the fact we could be sat here this time next week on 72 points from 34 games is ludicrous, and that would very much leave us right in the mix going in to the final 12, with a full week to prep for Plymouth to kick that off.

The Stoke and QPR games really stand out as missed opportunities given the form of those two. But if you look at that blip as a whole, played Leicester twice, Leeds away, had players away for internationals, had illness and injury in the squad. To still be right in the mix is pretty amazing.

The blip is much like last season, where too many people let the results dictate the narrative. We battered Norwich at home and deserved the win. Leicester home and away were always going to be tough games and we got 2 well earned draws against a very good side. Beat Sunderland at home, battered Maidstone in a game where we play that 50 times and win 49 of them. Leeds deservedly beat us at Elland road, which is no disgrace in all honesty against their quality. It's really just the 3 games against QPR, Stoke and Preston I look back on with a sense of regret, 2 of which were away, and there were mitigating circumstances in all, especially against QPR and Stoke. We're probably 4 points short of that blip actually being a really good return from a difficult set of fixtures. The fact is we're not in a position where we can have 4 or 5 of our best 7 or 8 players unavailable and not feel it, as we saw against QPR. We're back to much more squad depth now, with the January arrivals, Burgess back, Burns and Davis back from injury and Morsy through his bans. We'll be even more so if Williams gets himself back to the form we saw in October time. It's just a case of taking 1 game at a time now and seeing where it leaves us. Rotherham first, a win would take us level with Leeds, they then have Leicester on Friday. It's not unthinkable that we're above them this time next week with it back in our hands (given we have Southampton to come to PR).

I think it's very unlikely we'll see 4 or even 3 sides finish on over 100 points. We've all got some tough games left to play, we're all likely to drop some points here and there. I think 98 would be enough, which even then is a record haul needed for second by a big margin.

Yes and no. I get what you are saying in that at the beginning of December I had those fixtures as four points or more. But in the circumstances of the time, I saw them as two points gained. The one disappointment for me was Norwich. We were miles better than them but somehow the occasion appeared to get to our lads a little. I hope it’s a lesson learned.
