New fans and returners 08:30 - May 3 with 5169 views | SevenT8 | It is fantastic that our fan base is so energised by our recent successes. Can we please also remember, with zero bitterness, that many supporters have turned their backs on the team over recent years. Some of us have experienced every dreadful moment of the Keane, three Pauls and McCarthy eras. In wasn’t long ago I was in crowds of circa 12k. I’m am not hating on anyone. We all have different life pressures and family situations. All I am asking is that those singing ‘Ipswich till I die…’ tomorrow, actually mean it. We do need to acknowledge that for some it has been Ipswich till we stop winning…’. [Post edited 3 May 2024 8:31]

New fans and returners on 10:11 - May 3 with 1714 views | MattinLondon | Unfortunately life sometimes gets in the way of supporting Ipswich and regularly attending matches. I attended regularly (both home and away) for many many seasons but then my partner and I started a family and I made the conscious decision that I wanted to spend my weekends with my them rather than going to every home and away game. I’m not having a dig at the OP but it does annoy me when some fans point fingers at others for not attending. I only go to a few matches per season now but I still consider myself every much a loyal supporter as a season ticket holder.

Don't forget to state your assumptions at the top of the page so that we can all have a good old go at those.

New fans and returners on 10:18 - May 3 with 1618 views | FrimleyBlue | You know its a football club and not a child don't you? I don't think people turned their backs on the club. The club had turned it's back on its then known as 'Customers' So surely those customers had the right to stay away from paying for sht?

Need to include weighting measures such as: - average travel distance to travel to home and away games - number of dependants - average income - number of pitch invasions achieved - preference (or not) for Battenberg - amount of ITFC fan vlogs watched per week - amount of ground ejections due to overindulgence of the equine powder - tolerance levels of Frank From Holland - tolerance levels of Brenner W I think footers is going to need some serious help, I asked chatgpt what makes a generic football superfan and it came up with: A football superfan is someone who goes above and beyond in their passion for the sport. Here are some characteristics that often define them: Deep Knowledge: Superfans usually have an in-depth understanding of the game, including its history, rules, teams, players, and strategies. They might be able to analyze games in detail, pointing out key plays, statistics, and tactics. Devotion to a Team: They are fiercely loyal to their favorite team, often supporting them through thick and thin, regardless of their performance. They might attend as many games as possible, whether home or away, and might even travel long distances to show their support. Emotional Investment: Superfans are emotionally invested in their team's success. Wins bring them immense joy, while losses can deeply affect their mood. They often feel a sense of belonging and camaraderie with fellow fans. Team Spirit: They proudly display their team's colors, logos, and memorabilia. This could include wearing team jerseys, hats, scarves, or even painting their faces in team colors. They might decorate their homes or vehicles with team paraphernalia. Active Participation: Superfans are actively involved in supporting their team beyond just watching games. They might participate in fan clubs, online forums, or social media groups dedicated to their team. They could also engage in traditions like tailgating before games or organizing watch parties. Community Engagement: Many superfans see themselves as part of a larger community of fans. They often engage in charitable activities or community events associated with their team, helping to build a positive image for both the team and its supporters. Encyclopedic Memory: They can recall specific moments from games, players' stats, and even historical anecdotes with impressive accuracy. Their passion often extends beyond the current season, encompassing the team's entire legacy. Superstitions and Rituals: Some super fans have rituals or superstitions they believe will influence their team's performance. This could involve wearing lucky clothing, following a specific routine on game days, or avoiding certain actions they believe might jinx the team. Traveling Support: Superfans often travel to away games to support their team, turning road games into a home-field advantage with their presence and enthusiasm. They might plan their vacations or weekends around the team's schedule to ensure they don't miss any important games. Optimism and Resilience: Despite setbacks, super fans maintain an unwavering belief in their team's potential for success. They're quick to bounce back from defeats and continue supporting their team with the same fervor as ever.

New fans and returners on 10:29 - May 3 with 1636 views | Vaughan8 | I was one through the McCarthy era stating we need new fans, youngsters wanting to go. Its taken a bit of time but we are hear now. We had/have such an aging fan base from what I used to see at PR (no offence to anyone!) On one hand, its great for the club, lots of people wanting to go, buying merchandise etc. On a personal note, I can't get to every game and I didn't get a membership (my own choice/fault) so the last few months has been a nightmare getting tickets. However, its going to have to be something I "invest" in next year to stand any chance of tickets. Hopefully they get the ballot thing back like the last time in the Premier League. However, my point is, you say " I was there for the home game against Forst green so i'm a better supporter". Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. The last MM years were awful, followed by a terrible year, then a few meh years. its not surprising the team does well people want to come back is it? [Post edited 3 May 2024 10:30]

New fans and returners on 10:31 - May 3 with 1627 views | LA_Tractor_Boy | I'm a returning fan that has supported the club since '81. But I live 140 miles from Ipswich and after Jim was sacked I became disillusioned. I had a young family and couldn't justify spending my time and money travelling to Portman Road. But I never stopped supporting the club. I started regularly attending matches again in 2022/23 and decided to buy a season ticket again. It's worth noting that all 2023/24 and 2024/25 season ticket holders, bought their season ticket before we were promoted to the Championship. So I don't think any of the 20,000+ season ticket holders can be accused of being a Johnny-Come-Lately. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
New fans and returners on 10:36 - May 3 with 1584 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I'm sick of this narrative. I was one of those fans that was sitting in Portman Road bored out of my nut for the past 15 years. I'm no more of a fan than those fans who decided that watching dull, uninspired football at a club with an owner who was letting the ground and the club die year in year wasn't worth their time and money. People have lives and if they have seen that football is fun again, and you can go to games to lift your mood rather than making you more fall asleep every Saturday is worth their time. Good for them. There is no doubt, i would rather sit in a ground with 30k people having fun, than the 14k who all couldn't wait for the final whistle to blow.

Just to quickly add... on 10:38 - May 3 with 1572 views | Dyland | One part of me liked it when there were sod all fans in. It was easier to get a drink and move about without annoying people, which was necessary considering the spectacle was pretty sh1te half the time. I know that is ridiculous but nice to find positives innit. COYFB

A medal for that. I think you can reduce it to the simplest of questions: Did you see Graham Harbey attempt to play? Y/N
New fans and returners on 11:55 - May 3 with 1363 views | OldFart71 | Doesn't matter whether you support the lowest club in the League or a top of the league club fans will always come and go. Whether it be how a team plays, form or moving area/job. I followed Town from the late 50's through to the mid 80's, went a few times when under George Burley and have been once this season to see Town against Fulham. Also been to the pub a few times to watch away games. Won't be risking it tomorrow though as every time I have been to the pub we have lost. Nerve racking isn't it. I think it's due to years of failure and being let down that perhaps we always fear the worst. Hope Terry Butcher is right and it's 6-0 to Town.

Yep, I've seen all the greats, Harbey, Fish and Chapman (quite a good 60's bandname)

Ahem... I was one of the, oh so, few who have seen Amir Karic take to the turf at Portman Road. Can't say I noticed him in the game after that.

New fans and returners on 12:24 - May 3 with 1264 views | ClareBlue | I have been supporting since 70s and regularly travel from Ireland for matches. The new young fan base and returners is one of the best things about the last two years. My son travelled to matches from Ireland and didn't see us win for his first 10 matches. Why as a 11 year old would that be something he wanted to do every week. Why take up every weekend watching absolute dross football. Last year he flew back from Albania to meet me at Barnsley. His first match for 8 years. He has started an informal supporters club in Galway this year in his local pub. We were turning into the oldest fan base in the league. The returners and newbies are the future.

New fans and returners on 13:46 - May 3 with 1146 views | Swailsey | I’ve had a season ticket for nearly 20 years and none of my friends were that captivated/ever went. Over the last 2-3 they have felt the buzz of the town, and have had their worlds expanded, with football now being a huge part of their life and some got their first season tickets last year. I love the fact that I can share this passion with three of my closest friends, and see them discover the joys of following a football club. One of the three used to go as a kid but hadn’t been for years. He now goes with his 6 year old son who is footy obsessed and it’s creating amazing memories for them both. Football shouldn’t be elitist - there’s enough of that sh*t in the world. All are welcome.
