Is it just us 13:59 - May 18 with 3582 views | Cheltenham_Blue | or do fans of other clubs have this seemingly unending desire to bring back their old players, so far this weekend we've had Flynn Downes and Arron Cresswell. One that wanted to leave and a 34 year old to act as cover for a player who runs more yards than most players in that position. Thank God Pablo and Shefki are both retired

Is it just us on 14:04 - May 18 with 3518 views | Tonytown | We need another left back and Cresswell is one that is available for free. We need legs in central midfield and Downes or Ben Sheaf are the 2 stand out players from the Championship that we’ve seen. They both seem eminently sensible suggestions to me.

Is it just us on 14:22 - May 18 with 3400 views | Steve_M | I can’t see the issue with Downes, he’s been excellent for Southampton this season and neither Morsy nor Luongo is getting younger. A central midfielder capable of replacing either is a high priority.

Is it just us on 14:22 - May 18 with 3400 views | J2BLUE | You keep mentioning how he wanted to leave. Would you have wanted to stay here watching the squad be gradually downgraded and on the inevitable slide into league one? Everything we have heard about the culture here under Evans and the state of the training ground etc and you still can't get over him wanting to leave? As for the rest of of your list yesterday, he quite fairly pointed out that the fans didn't know the full story. You even managed to take issue with him saying he wanted to stay at Southampton. Amazing.

Is it just us on 14:24 - May 18 with 3383 views | Jon_456 | It’s probably all clubs and I assume for a lot of people, in most cases, is just down to a lack of player knowledge outside of Ipswich. That said, I still think Flynn Downes would be an excellent signing and probably not too expensive for Prem level.

Ben Sheaf is the only sensible suggestion there.

J2. You know full well that he wanted out way before most of that happened. I 'got over' him wanting to leave yonks ago, equally I don't have an issue with any player saying that want to stay at x club or y club, but on that basis, I believe he's unstable for us and the squad ethos we are trying to foster here. Are you his Mum or something?

Before all what happened? It was clear where the club was heading under Evans. What else was he supposed to say before a play off semi for Southampton? No, i'm just an adult who looks at facts. Believe it or not, I won't lose any sleep if we don't get him. I think he would be a decent signing but i'm sure we will have other targets.

There aren’t many left backs like Leif Davis’ available you know. I’d prefer Sheaf over Downes as he is bigger unit.

Your last sentence there gives away just how infantile your Downes agenda is. Not sure why you took it so personally, it's a cut throat industry and he thought his career would be better served by moving. And he was right, so I don't see the issue. You're more obsessed with Downes than those suggesting him are.

OK and based on the facts, he should have been our captain at some point, but too much water has gone under the bridge now. We should move on from old players and look forward.

If the club and the players decide that he's the right fit - then who are a few over sensitive fans to decide otherwise.

Is it just us on 15:30 - May 18 with 2995 views | Sharkey | I know Colchester fans often comment when ex-players are released, and there tends to be much more interest when the players are 'home-grown´. The general feeling this week seemed to be that it would always be nice to see KVY back, Bonne not so much, ... but that the Cowleys are certain to have strong ideas of their own and neither signing is remotely likely. (Having said that, Bonne did play for them at Lincoln, on loan.) Obviously, at that level there tend to be a few players who have gone on to greater things and there is always the fond hope that one day the likes of Szmodics and Tchamadeu will come home. And until he eventually finished (at Peterborough Sports I think) there was always the hope/rumour that Lua Lua would come back to entertain the good people of north Essex. The fact that Tchamadeu was in with the away fans at a game a couple of months ago shows his affection for the club, but hopefully he'll have at least ten years at a much higher level. The chairman was talking last week about how pleased he is that so many of the academy players who've been sold 'upwards' stay in touch. [Post edited 18 May 2024 15:48]

Is it just us on 20:03 - May 18 with 2316 views | Mach_foreignBlue | It is us .....by far....by very far. No other fanbase have a such big obsession about bringing or talking about bringing our ex-players back. If McKenna goes some weirdos will be calling for Burley to be back and Holland to be his assistant. Moreover they would be happy even if we offered the nice speakers Skuse and Chambers the jobs.
