It's not about populism particularly, rather appealing to relatively small groups of hard-liners who are abandoning the Conservatives for Reform. This neglects the fact that in three of the four by-elections in 2024, the combined Con-Reform vote still fell short of the winner. In the case of the exception, Kingswood, it only exceeded it by 77.
But, again, this is all about the aftermath - setting out stalls for who gets to lead the party next. | |
