And it will be sad, as over their time at ITFC they have been popular players, who have played their part to resurrect us from our lowest ebb. And I would even include the likes of Norwood in that.

Norwood epitomises our lowest ebb, not sure he did much to get us out of it.

Long Kayden Interview on Town TV on 20:46 - Jun 7 with 4142 views | Churchman | Agree. It’s worth listening too. Lovely bloke. He’s been a big asset to the club on and off the pitch. He played his part and it’s sad to see him go - but it is the right time. His comments on his colleagues over the lasts six years are interesting and his pleasure at what he and the club have achieved in the last two seasons shines through. I wish him well. It’ll be interesting to see what he does post football. I suspect he might continue with the community / mental health side of things. Something that he’s clearly very engaged with. Despite the lure of his north west home, I’d not be in the least surprised if he doesn’t wind up living in Suffolk again, as so many do. I wish him well. [Post edited 7 Jun 2024 21:15]

I do get the impression that Norwood and Jackson are polar opposites as characters, so pleased to see that one has been on the journey with us. Not too bothered about the other tbh.

Norwood’s goal record can be measured alongside almost anyone’s. And he at least looked like he cared, which was more than some of them did… when he scored his last goal in the last few minutes of the last game of that season (v Charlton?), he saluted the fans as he knew he was on his way, and he got a respectful response back to acknowledge his efforts.

He's not from the North-West, he's from Bradford. North west of Suffolk, yeah, but he's from east of the Pennines.

Fair enough. I stand corrected. I thought he was from the Liverpool area. Ah well, it’s all north to me. Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire etc. All one big happy family with whippets, Eccles cakes, flat caps and hovis. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

100% agree. Some referred to him as the best player in League 1, but all I ever saw is someone who couldn't stay fit and highlighted how badly out of ideas the club were.

The thing is, he didn't keep himself fit. This is as much part of being a players as scoring goals were. Yes, players can't help when they're injured, but the fella looked gassed after 30-45minutes of football at L1 level.

Agreed. Norwood worked hard and scored goals for us. Not my favourite bloke but never questioned his work rate, effort and he contributed a lot but struggled with injuries. One of the few players we bought around that time that were decent.

He was largely mediocre and couldn't keep himself fit because he was unprofessional. Weird that some of our fans have a soft spot for him. For me he pretty much sums up how far the club had fallen at that point in time. Such a sharp contrast to someone like Jackson who showed the attitude, ability, and application needed to be part of the club's upward journey over the last few years.

Agree with that. Norwood had a really strange sort of ‘cult’ following. No idea why. Each to their own. Personally, he struck me as a real lower league ham and egger. On his day, mayhem. On another day, well let’s not go there. I was pleased to see him and the baggage that came with him go.

I agree. I dislike all this jumping on the "hate Norwood" bandwagon. The "We've come such a long way since then" nonsense as if the players we had then didn't care and didn't count. Anyone who saw Norwood's return at Wigan away can vouch for his desire and also his ability. Once a blue, eh? Some of us are getting a bit big headed and forgetting already.

By this logic can we say Tamas Priskin was a good player for us because he scored against Arsenal? I was not a keen fan of Norwood when he was here, that largely came from watching him play at home games and often seeing his movement off the ball. The lad loved having the ball and would turn it on when he did, but there were plenty of times when he didn't look capable of making important runs off the ball when building up the attack.

He also had a tendency to spend spells of the game running around like a headless chicken trying to get booked. Some equate that with him giving his all, others not.

That's just applying a different logic and saying "by this logic". Norwood wasn't good enough to take us where we wanted to go post takeover. But he was a decent performer Vs a lot of the rest of what we had. That's all people are saying. Not a fan of the bloke so not sure why there has to be comments about him being a cult figure etc. he wasn't. He was just a decent L1 striker. Overall he was better than Bonne and non question he was giving his best.

Agree with this. And for me he was more effective than Will Keane, yet for a long while fans were wanting us to sign Will Keane back again. We've all got different opinions, but at least Norwood always appeared to give 100% when he played. He obviously didn't have the ability to take it to the next level and had a poor injury record, but he often played through the pain barrier and doesn't deserve to be slagged off as much as he is IMO.

Probably the beer celebration the club put out after his first goal. Hard to imagine that getting through now 🤣 Hard to judge any player from that era — I thought he looked decent on some occasions, but then KJ didn’t do a huge amount either. I think JN had his own problems and we weren’t the best place to sort them out.

There's a lot of glossing over the complete lack of professionalism, including drink driving convictions and spending lockdown on the piss and getting fat. He wasn't some model pro who gave it his best despite not having the most ability, that is Kayden Jackson. Norwood was given a big contract here and spent a decent chunk of his 3 years pissing it up the wall. On the pitch he was a bang average clogger, you forgive that if the attitude is there but with Norwood it's complete revisionism to suggest his attitude was anything other than poor.
