Brandon Williams (again) 15:07 - Jun 10 with 15112 views | BlueNomad | Thinking how, in many ways, he would be a good signing; PL experience, no transfer fee and can play left and right back. If successful he would fit the player-trading model. BUT with a court date set for early next year would he be worth the risk?

If he was still under contract at Man Utd I would be amazed if they let him just decide not to bother attending court. It would seem that they had already given up on him. One doesn't have to be especially judgmental about the specifics to conclude, with respect, that this is not the type of person that fits the character test and high standards that have been set at Ipswich. Man Utd seemingly agree.

Are you saying this because you know it to be fact, or just assuming it. Personally I would be surprised if you are correct Joe.

He was on loan here for the season, with no break clause because we thought we had a really good deal on it - but were sold a pup. Not being able to end it in Jan when we knew he was a goner really hurt us but luckily we got away with it doe to Axel moving across there because Davis and Clarke were totally flogged due to it

I never realised we had to pay (probably through the nose) for the whole season for six appearances. Not the best deal ever done.

knowing a little about lawyers and contracts, especially involving large amounts of money, I would be very surprised if there wasn’t some provision for him not being paid by the club. Truth is we will never know.

It would be a horrendous contract (and pretty unheard of) to allow the company loaning out his services to call him back on medical grounds and us still have to pay. Given it wasn't our choice and we were not recieving the services we had paid for I can't believe for a minute we paid the full amount. I guess the only grounds would be injury but as he wasn't injured in sporting terms and could physically play again I'd be amazed. I imagine some compromise at least was found. Either way it didn't work. We'd need to be very confident he was on a better path to re-sign him. Way of life in Suffolk would probably be good for him.

Who'd have thought that at the start of that season that Axle Tuanzebe would become first choice right back, and a pretty solid one too. I'm really surprised that Davis never got a muscle injury with how much we asked of him. It would be really interesting to see his sprints numbers as well and ground covered.

He was still registered at ITFC for the second half of the season, not Man Utd - so he wasn't 'called back', his loan carried on and wasn't terminated. Fact he's been sent out on loan to Norfolk and Suffolk now and still ended up in trouble is quite telling - maybe he'll go and join Wayne Rooney at Plymouth next season as only place further away from Manchester

Brandon Williams (again) on 08:33 - Jun 14 by BondiBlue | Surely the point with williams is that his (alleged) issues with addiction reduce his ability to reform somewhat. Even if he really wants to. |
Eh? How do we know he's "addicted"? And even if he is, that doesn't mean he can't or doesn't want to reform. Lot of assumptions there. I'd leave it to the experts. [Post edited 14 Jun 2024 13:36]

You're suggesting he might have been deliberately driving without insurance thinking he'd get away with it - which if true would be very stupid indeed, because you obviously can't. I'd be amazed if even young footballers were that stupid, but who knows?

I have in the past. Went slightly past the renewal date without realising. Have it set up automatically now but it's not impossible to forget/miss the date. Especially if you're a cosseted footballer who has most things done for them.

Brandon Williams (again) on 09:02 - Jun 14 by Zx1988 | I wonder if it's one of those circumstance-based things, whereby whatever offence BW had committed also served to invalidate his insurance, which led to the police charging him for that as well? I think you often see it when the police are doing one of their frequent campaigns - action A resulting in the insurance being invalidated, so the offender being charged on both counts. |
This sounds highly likely to me. More likely than he just decided not to get any. That would be bizarre.

Google ‘footballer driving without insurance’. There’s loads of them who’ve been caught. Who knows in Brandon’s case, but deliberately driving without insurance and/or a license is surprisingly common. And yes, they’re stupid.

I'm sure it happens, but is it really deliberate among footballers? The first one I saw after googling as you said was a French player at Crystal Palace who apparently could barely speak English and only had the first page of his (French) driving licence. Sounds more like ignorance than deliberate, going on that. I know ignorance doesn't let you off the hook but it's more forgivable than deliberately avoiding it. And to footballers on £70k a week, why would they deliberately avoid it anyway? It's a drop in the ocean.
