It was ridiculously harsh, another case of where the arms are away from the body, it is interpreted as a handball, despite it being perfectly reasonable for the arms to be out.

Correct by the letter of the law, indeed - but probably on the harsher end of the scale
It is accidental but he gained an advantage from it as the handball takes the ball further away from the defender. Harsh but by the letter of the law the right decision for me.

I once jokingly wrote a column demanding Snicko should be brought in in football after Dean Gerken, then with Bristol City, had flapped at a long throw which had gone in and the referee had deemed he hadn't touched it, when it looked very much as if he did.

Does it really take the ball further away from the defender? The spin changes but the ball doesn't seem to deviate from its trajectory at all.
