Healthy eating series: Eggs 12:29 - Jun 27 with 3855 viewsSitfcB

Know you all love an egg thread.

There was a small bit of egg chat on the other one but wanted to gauge opinion on just eggs.

LL mentioned he could, or does, eat 10 boiled eggs in one go, on a moderation scale I’m not so sure that would count as healthy?

I’ve been having a couple as a mid morning snack this week, and then maybe one in the evening. (Been quite easy to peel - I run could water over them when they’re still warm from the egg boiler)

Are they actually good to eat?

I know some people eat them raw! Think Slimming World even says you can have them fried if they’re fried in Fri-light?

People say they bung you up more than anything?

Nout wrong with a hard boiled egg dipped in a bit of a concoction of mayo and dijon mustard. Never had a problem taking a dump after eating eggs, but knocking 10 back in a sitting isn't my kind of jam.

The key to a lot of healthier eating is make sure there is a portion of low energy density fibre with the protein, in other words, most veg - so, egg + salad is a winner for sure

I usually have a little bit of Salad Cream with my boiled eggs, lovely.

Ketchup with fried and scrambled.

Poached rather than fried would be the healthy option.

Poached eggs on toast is my gym day tea, lovely stuff - especially if there is just a hit of vinegar from the water on the egg.

Yeah. I tend to start the day with two poached eggs on one slice of wholemeal toast.

Not a fan of the vinegar though.

I take it you wasn't brought up in the vinegar added to water camp? Funny old world is that of the boiling arts - see also the salt debate for pasta water; terrible business that we're in.

Horrible things.

Pickled eggs in a jar has to be one of the weirdest things about pubs, who eats them as a snack?

Frylight is 1 calorie per spray.

Used sparingly it can be decent.

If it's working for you, don't stop it. They are packed with nutrition, protein and good fats (I think you can even get omega 3 enriched eggs from hens fed linseed).

Amazing bit of edible. Over the year there was a lot of concern of how much cholesterol they carried but it seems that the general consensus these days is that they carry far more good than bad. 10 in one day is probably too much though 😂😂

If you're going lower carb then these things are beasts. High protein, keeps you filled.

Don't mind a fried egg or 2 as long as there accompanied by 3-4 sausages, several rashers, black and white pudding, mushrooms , beans ( kept well away from egg yoke of course) fried bread, an a boxty or 2.

Gosh, one of my favourite parts of a winter warmer in Dundee, Runny fried egg with a tile of Lorne.

You need these if you want to lose weight Sitters. Lady Dollers and I saw the weight drop off when we stuck to them... and even now that we're not doing it religiously I still cook the recipes as the meals are so tasty, healthy and not difficult to make. There's even desserts and more snacky stuff.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

have an uppie just for the pictures. I've not seen the books, but those 2 dishes look right up my street. Served with a massive side of chips and washed down with 5 pints of Proper Job. Good healthy stuff.

Some New Zealanders can be a bit on the chunky side, so maybe they have maori recipes than the UK version?

Depends how you like your cholesterol - and your salmonella.

Most UK eggs come from fairly disgusting sources so you’re doing the eggy equivalent of wild swimming if you eat them raw. Don’t be fooled by ‘free range’ they all pop indoors into faeces infested lodgings to lay eggs and roost - and every time someone squeaks bird flu they’re cooped up full time in their salmonella infested hell hole for months on end.

Without being too obvious it kind of depends how big the eggs are - and where the come from. Duck eggs are more protein packed - and goose eggs are delicious scrambled. Don’t fret if you cook them no matter what Edwina Currie tells you - it’s the bacon, sausage and black pudding that gets you.

Always remember seeing them in the chippy. Always used to wonder what they tasted like and tried it few years back and it’s just disgusting complete waste of eggs.

You clearly haven't been paying attention. They invented eggshells to keep eggs protected from the poo.

Eggs have been a huge part of me losing 10kg in the past couple of months.

Scrambled
Poached
Omelet
Chucked in randomly with bacon, veg
Fried (but with 1 cal spray & non-stick pan)

They're full of protein which keeps you full. Really good for you in other ways too. Used to be a misconception with cholesterol but that got busted.

I've lost the weight from following a high protein, lower carb diet. Still means I've been able to enjoy the food whilst tracking my calories to ensure I'm in a defecit.

This week for lunch I've had chicken breasts with chorizo, peppers and onions in a chlli & garlic sauce. Has been delicious and less than 600 calories for a huge serving. Aldi have 2kg chicken breast for £9.99
