Biden 11:17 - Jun 28 with 4590 viewsmutters

Not sure if it has been mentioned but I just watched a quick overview of the debate between Biden and Trump last night.

Tough watch. Biden I am afraid looks gone, I am sure he is still fairly cognitive when he is in familiar places, and not under the glaring lights of camera and studio, however, it does feel that the Democrats are going to have make a hard decision and find another candidate if they want any chance of winning.

Trump, even with all his warts and all, will walk this election as Biden just doesn't seem able to put up a defence. If i was an American, i am not sure i would want Biden running my country for the next 4 years even if the alternative is Trump

Id take Mickey Mouse over Donald Trump.

But yes I dont get why Biden wants to run or why the democrats dont have anyone better.

They probably do need to put forward another candidate but you would hope even the most brain dead American could see the difference between:

Biden - Senile but stable, experienced politician who will likely listen to his advisors to fill the gaps in his competence

Trump - Also senile, but a raging anti-democracy narcissistic convicted felon with no substance, credibility, or intention to listen to anybody but his own ego.

All those ‘American values’ that they’ve killed people all over the world to spread and they’d prefer a guy who embodies none of them.

It was worse than I feared. Biden should be in a nursing home. No joke. That said, I’ll still vote for him over Trump.

You can't watch Biden do anything now and think he is worth voting for - people will but he needs to be pulled. The 'not as mad as Trump' stuff just isn't enough when you see just how bad he is now.

It's cruel seeing him out there, he shouldn't be in a public role like this even as an ambassador or the like let alone quite literally the biggest job in the world

Presumably people can console themselves by knowing his handlers will understand whatever state he's in and won't let him near any sharp knives! A really poor state of affairs though that they can't find better than those two.

Exacerbated by the fact it was Biden's camp who requested this debate brought forward by a couple of months as he was slightly behind in the polls and they thought it would help focus the minds of the undecided.
I'm fairly sure it has, but not how Biden's camp had planned.

To replace Biden with Harris as primary candidate would be a huge gamble considering the levels of mysogyny and racism prevalent across the US - the chances of a woman of African / Asian / American descent getting the same level of votes as a white male is low.

However, I think the possible scenario is that the democrats are betting on Biden getting re-elected, and then for Biden to step down after 24 months due to ill-health. Harris would then step in and the democrats would hope her level of performance over the remaining 2 years of the term would be enough to ensure that the wider American public would be comfortable to vote for her in '28, plus having served only 2 years on this term, she would still be eligible for stand for 2 full terms.

If they swap out Biden for Harris then that would be the final nail in the coffin as she is useless beyond words.

Its wild the Democrats have let it get this far. Surely the plan was: Biden wins in 2020, 4 years of stability and he passes the torch to an anointed successor. I'm not sure if the relative unpopularity of Kamala Harris meant this plan failed, but Biden's legacy is soon going to pivot from being the guy who got Trump out of the White House, to being the guy who let him back in.

The Dems narrative has always been 'he's so aware and cognitively able behind closed doors', but this shatters that story. The public can only vote on what they see. Which is an old man barely able to string together a sentence.

Biden should step out of the contest now and let candidates put themselves forward before the convention. By this point they'd be lacking name recognition, which the primaries would have allowed them to build, but at least it would be a viable candidate for the moderates to vote for.

Gavin Newsom from California will likely be parachuted in to save the day. As you say, utterly inept and reckless of the Dems to put Biden up. A massive gamble that could very well blow up in their faces.

I saw a clip on TV a few weeks ago where Biden was stood next to some trees looking out into a field and then some woman came and turned him around because he was actually at an event and was facing the wrong way !

The man should be in a nursing home - he's meant to be running arguably the most powerful country in the world and yet you'd worry if he was left alone to run himself a bath

The USA voted for a man of African/American descent in two consecutive elections, so I don't see colour s an issue. The thick racist vote is already going to Trump anyway. Harris is just useless.

One name I have seen doing the rounds is California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Entirely predictable as in fact many of us predicted on here a few weeks back - while some were saying that it was Trump that had the health and mental problems.

Trump looked like a polished whippersnapper compared to Biden - and more than coherent.

No way can he beat Trump and if Trump gets in I worry about an end to the planet.

Democrats simply have to ditch Biden

The thing is Trump is mental, and speaks rubbis, and that is all true - but up against a doddering old bloke that doesn't matter.

If he was on stage with Gavin Newsom, or a Barack Obama, they'd have made Trump look worse than he made Biden look last night

No, what you saw was a favourably-edited clip to make you think “wow, that man’s staring at nothing” instead of “oh look, that man’s looking at something that’s in front of him”.

It's so unhelpful for people to try and claim this, because Biden is not electable and at the moment is going to let Trump back to the White House.

Biden needs to be called out for what he is now, and the Dems need to get this message and quickly, because anyone else on the Dem ticket has more of a chance of stopping Trump than Biden does now

As I said, not arguing the overall point, but nobody needs to make that point by deliberately stripping things of their context and riling up people who are easily led. It’s the exact same bullsh*t the media pulls in this country and look where it gets us.

From the FT.

Obama’s ex-campaign manager David Plouffe described it as a “Defcon 1 moment”, referring to the label for the highest alert level for US armed forces.

“It really pains me to say this,” he told MSNBC. “[Biden and Trump] are three years apart. They seemed about 30 years apart tonight. That is going to be the thing that voters really wrestle with.”

And this (apart from the last sentence) isn't a great admission.

Biden has to go.
