It's all a bit distorted by the fact that a) England play lots of Friendlies and b) nowadays you get at least 6 easy qualifiers against small nations. In Sir Alf's day we didn't have to qualify for 1966 or 1970, and in 1974 we're in qualfying group of 3. | |

All I can add to this is that in the first 48 years of my life I'd seen England play in two semi finals, 1990 and 1996, that's it. Since Southgate I've seen three semi finals and now two finals !

Last night I'd give Gareth 8/10 and you have to give loads of credit for the subs.... but usually his in-game management is awful. That second half it looked as if Koeman was getting the upper-hand with tactics and it took until the 75th minute for him to make changes.
