The democrats really have to take action now. Surely he can't stand as their candidate.

Joe Biden is a decent man and has been a decent president but he has to go. Not for his sake, but for America and the whole world. If Trump gets in with the new powers that his lackeys in The US Supreme Court has given him he will try to and very possibly succeed in turning The US into Russia.

Shame on the democrat leadership for not thinking ahead; Joe should have been eased out and a new candidate prepped way ahead of this embarrassing and sad decline. Trump coming back will be a whole new level of awfulness.

The absolute state of this country that these are the two choices.

But at least he realised immediately, unlike when he referred to Kamala Harris as Vice President Trump!

The tide seems to have well and truly turned in the last couple of weeks - but those around him who have lied to the people about how good he apparently is in private, and how he'll do in a debate have blood on their hands

It's anti democratic to have hidden this for so long

Really sad to see, isn't it (along with being absolutely terrifying, given what it will likely lead to). Until fairly recently I'd thought it had all been scaremongering and overexageration, with Biden being obviously old and slow but still pretty sharp. But I guess at the age he is, things can start going downhill very rapidly and all of a sudden you are in a situation like this. The Dems are really in all sorts of sh*t now. What a quandary.

Hard to see how he comes back from that. The only slip in what otherwise sounds like a flawless performance in the talks, but it’s political gold dust for his opponents. They’d be throwing the baby out with the bath water when they get rid of him, but I’m not sure what else they can do. It’s not an emotionally mature enough country to simply acknowledge he’s got issues, own them and mitigate them. Which is a bit strange, as working well past a sensible retirement age is fairly normal there.

According to LBC, Zelensky cancelled a subsequent press conference as a result which is not ideal.

You can't mitigate as the President for only being able to be able to work 3-4 hours a day. It isn't the UK, all the power is held by the executive and the position - if he's not capable of it, just appointing a good team around yourself isn't enough, and certainly wouldn't be enough in 3-4 years time when he'll be even worse.

If Biden, like Reagan, were caught off-air making a joke, it would probably be the following, to paraphrase what Reagan actually said.

"My fellow Russians, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw America forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."

I wasn’t aware he could only work 3-4 hours a day. If that’s right then he should be toast. If it’s the occasional muddling of names, that could be a more nuanced position. Not that the other guy is any better in that area. How the hell can these two be the best each party could come up with. It’s nuts.

Yup, real shame that the Dems didn't manage to find anyone else credible to run this time round.

Although given the choice between him and the corrupt, incontinent, project 2025 pushing paedo guy I still know where I hope the US votes.

That was separately in the press conference wasn't it? But yeah, agreed that's not a good sign either. Both of them obviously have issues with recall, so likely both have dementia to some degree. Fk knows why neither party are taking this seriously (well, I probably do know why as it's all about winning the election rather than doing what's best for their country).

Listening to the wider quote there, it feels as if Biden knows that he's toast as well. Declaring your VP (and likely successor at some point in the next term, if he stays in post and wins) as unfit to run the country very much feels like one final hail Mary.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

You're new to TWTD aren't you? Mild criticism of anyone to the left of centre means you are a Fox TV watching, Reform voting neo nazi.

You're supposed to pretend that all is well with Biden then wonder why Trump wins the election.
