New Ford Capri on 19:36 - Jul 13 with 3225 views | EastTownBlue | I saw someone driving a 1984 Ford Capri last week. The car was much older than the driver. I quite liked them as a youngster. [Post edited 13 Jul 2024 19:37]

New Ford Capri on 19:43 - Jul 13 with 3193 views | Chondzoresk | My first car was a black Capri. 2.0 John Player Special. Tonked it over the Orwell Bridge at a legal 70 mph back in the late 80s. I did have a banana yellow 1.6 GL with a black vinyl roof later that cost me £150. Went everywhere in it. What Ford have produced today will only be seen outside country primary schools driven by Daily Mail, reform voters. Could have been so, so much more and a nod to the original thrown in……but no.

When I saw a new Capri was on the way, I was, stupidly, excited. I love a couple, and there was a chance to make this a modern classic. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I guess the clue was in Ford's destruction of the Mustang sub-brand.
New Ford Capri on 19:59 - Jul 13 with 3086 views | brogansnose | That thing bears no resemblance to the style or spirit of the original Capri and looks more like a sofa on wheels which, pretty much, so many cars do today. You wouldn't see Terry from Minder tearing up Fulham high street in one but, school run ?

What’s worse, I saw the new versions original design. Which was fantastic. Looked like update of the original. You are totally right. It’s just a watered down Mach-E. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Bet you wish you still had them. Be worth a bit now. Same with the Sierra Cosworth.

I did see the ‘Flying Banana’ as it was affectionately known floating around Town during the mid 90s. I’m 100% certain both vehicles are no longer with us. Yup, the JPS was I think a 1975/6 car from memory and the banana was 78/79 ish. I’d love to still have either. Not in monetary terms, but nostalgic terms. That goes for the Pug 205 1.9gti I owned and to a lesser extent the Cavalier SRI 130….if only I kept any of them.

I lived in Belstead Road boys home for 2 years from 1980/82. One of the carers there had a 1979 red/black RS 2000 Escort. We looked at in in awe. He took a couple of us to Shrewsbury in it when we drew 0-0 in the FA Cup. We were flying past everyone on the journey. I wonder how much that would be worth now.

I just looked…..probably £40/£60,000…..or basically you can ask any price. There are some very serious collectors out there. Loved to have had a spin in that Escort. Very nice. Lucky you.

I suspect with a limited run these will be super expensive but it will be exciting to seem them unveiled even if there are effectively unobtainable: https://www.magnetomagazine.com/rs200-and-escort-mk1-to-be-brought-back-to-life-

My uncle was manager at ford garage and I always remember one of the cars he had was a Capri. It was a special edition JPS model it was black and had a massive JPS emblem on the bonnet. Yep I agree many of todays modern cars are boring and all look the same.

My Dad had a MK 1 which was white with a black vinyl roof and a sunroof which you had to wind open. Well, when I passed my test I got to drive it around when he wasn't which was the coolest I've ever been before or after. He chopped it in for a Princess - think they were by Morris - which as an absolute Hippo to drive. No idea what was going through his head.

My second car was a red Mk3 with black vinyl roof. Traded it for a TR7 to may eternal regret. This new model looks nothing like a Capri.

My best mate had a couple of Mk1s in our yoof. We went everywhere in it or my Escort Mk1. My car was faster and handled better, but I was always a bit envious. It didn’t have the look. The Capri did in spades. I was always going to buy one, but never did. Ho hum. Many a happy hour was spent fixing and tinkering with those cars. My favourite version was the Mk1 Facelift. Larger headlights, double tail lights, power bulge in the bonnet, it looks the nuts. Something I was doing in the mid-late 70s meant I was carted around in one for a week - Daytona Yellow with a black bonnet. I wanted it.

I didn’t know Crayford’s did a Capri. Interesting and clearly rare. As you say, one heck of a price for that. Still not as expensive as Steve McQueen’s Bullitt car - the Ford Mustang with a 390cc V8 engine. One of two used in the film. It sold in 2020 for $3.7m. I would have loved that car, but it was a bit out of my price range.
