If England lose 21:10 - Jul 13 with 4649 viewsgtsb1966

how peed off will you be. When we lost the 1990 World Cup semi final I was 24 and totally gutted. I didn't buy a newspaper for a few days nor watch the news. Thankfully the Internet wasn't a thing then. When we lost the the last world cup semi and Euro final I found myself peed off for a couple of hours but fine by the morning. I'll be the same tomorrow if the worse happens. Ipswich lose a game though I'm peed off all weekend. Is anyone else the same. Is it an age thing?

For me, when England play, they play for all the fans who support all the small clubs that have made English football so great - , Farsley, Spennymoor, Braintree etc , - all the fans who have turned out to watch football when their team has been rubbish. So I hope we win, for all the small club fans up and down the country who make English football what it is, with a pyramid that reaches so deep. ( I remember being at Peterborough services and seeing two coach-loads of Dover fans going to north Yorkshire for a game) I think nobody likes football as much as the English do, and we deserve a moment of glory. These millionaire players represent a nation that loves football. I think they know that'

I would prefer England to win a final than Ipswich lose the final game of the season which sees us drop from 11th to 12th. Dropping from 17th to 18th is a completely different matter.

Be a disgrace if England win today, shouldn't be a country mile of the final, no better than Scotland to be brutally honest. England have stunk the tournament out and have had the most ridiculous amount of luck.

Sad thing is, we've got Southgate now for another 4 years. He'll be delighted on £5million a year, and it'll be 62 years without a major trophy. Then the FA might realise that hey what a 12 year waste.

and no I won't be eating any humble pie, it is a nailed on Spain win later today thank god for that.

A few points.
Why will it be a disgrace?
Luck has had a little to do with it but hardly a ridiculous amount . England have ground out results. The defence has been solid and Kane and Bellingham who have not been at their best due to one carrying an injury and the other being played into the ground along with Watkins have came up with the goods when needed. Ipswich had their fair share of luck last season but again not a ridiculous amount
Dare I say it but Southgate has been a more successful England manager than Sir Bobby. Two finals and one semi vs one semi.
England have been much better than Scotland.

For me when I was young I was proud to be English. However the massive decline in the last couple of decades that sees Was England as the horrible place it is today makes me less proud, therefore I’m less bothered about us winning. That’s not a reflection of the players I might add. Add that to the fact we really don’t deserve to be in the final with the luck and tedious football and I’m not too fussed at all.

Blimey England isn’t a horrible place,it’s a beautiful country.

Just some of the people in it are horrible.

I of course would love to see them win but if they lose I can deal with it.I will be gutted if they lose for a day or so,but in honesty I still can’t believe they have made it to the final.

First up I will be watching the tennis final, and I want the Spaniard to win,I don’t like the other chap.

When England lose will be gutted tonight and tomorrow but likely fine after that, however, when Ipswich lose puts me on a downer until they have won again!

Am usually a massive England fan and in previous years would have been seriously disappointed to lose. This time’s different though - whether age, or spoiled by McKenna-ball, or worried about getting thumped by Spain I dunno, but just feel comparatively muted at this stage.

Love the point above that a win would be great for all the fans of minnow grassroots clubs trugging up and down the country supporting their teams though.

I was only 5 in 66... can remember my Dad watching it but it's a bit of a foggy memory... however 1970 was my first "aware" finals.... Dad got a colour TV especially for it.... I was convinced we would win it, went pretty well and like everyone else "back home" I was looking forward to a semi final as Bobby Charlton was substituted! Within the next hour I suppose I was bawling my eyes out!
No more World Cups till '82 and I was immensely proud of the Ipswich involvement having been at Wembley for the Mariner qualification goal!disappointment followed of course so on to 1990, that was the one I really wanted us to win with Sir Bob and al that!... lucky to get to the semi really but that David Platt winner was really very similar in context to last Wednesday! We were so unlucky in that semi and really really deserved to win.... I was gutted, no tears but really gutted...... we've had our moments since then of course but my enthusiasm had drained as Town declined and the England team didn't really represent our premier league such was the influx of international players.
Fast forward to now and with my zest for football reignited by our club , manager and owner I really want England to stick a massive Cherry on the promotion cake(s).
I also want my kids to be proud of their country's achievement and let's be honest I want to celebrate something properly too! ... Sorry it's a long post to say I can't choose... I've always loved football but I always want to see my country in whatever guise ( England GB or UK) win! .

All I can do is wish England the best of luck and hope they finally "Bring it Home"

Not even slightly.

I wouldn't like to lose to France or Portugal or a few others but Spain are decent.
They've played the best football.

Some of the people indeed are as you say, and granted there are some nice places. I have been lucky enough to travel all over and many towns and cities are run down, not looked after and down right depressing. I wish I had your outlook on this country.

If they win they win, if they lose they lose!
It wont bother me in the slightest.
Yes being English I would like to see England win but I just cannot connect with them the way I do with Ipswich.

Its a strange situation really, week in week out in league football we are slating, booing even insulting players from other teams yet, when they are playing for England we cheer them and get behind them!
Which makes me think, if a Norwich player was playing for England (not that it would ever happen!) would we be cheering him on?

I was very upset in ‘86, absolutely devastated in ‘90 and ‘96 and a little upset in 04, 06 and 10 : but am strangely ambivalent these days. Wasn’t even that fussed in ‘21. Must be an age thing. There’s also a part of me that resents England doing well without an ex Ipswich manager being at the helm. Odd really but a part of me doesn’t want Southgate to be held in as much esteem as Sir Alf or Sir Bob.

This, plus I have Spain in the office sweepstake.

I want England to win, but most of all I want it to be a decent game and for England to give it a good go…..and for VAR to have the night off.

I didn't watch either of the last two World Cups on principle of where they were held and it broke any remaining magic for international football for me.

When does the real football start?

'90 was bad because it felt like we could have won and the final was a terrible game, 96 was worse because it felt like we should have won that game before it got to penalties, 98 was annoying more than anything as it felt like we threw the game away by petulance, and it was a classic Shearer prem league foul that he always got away with, that got Campbells goal ruled out.

by and large not been that bothered about them since, , '21 was just well there was the chance and they didnt take it, they wont realise the opportunity or regrets about it till much later in their career, which has been the way of these big games for a while.

lets hope they seize the chance theyve got this time.

Won't be to impressed if they lose. Partner is Spanish, had managed to convince the daughter to support England.( not easy in the West of Ireland). Even had her singing footballs coming home to annoy her mum.

Then yesterday she went to a kids party and asked her friends if she should support England or Spain?
She said ' everyone of her friends and 2 dad's who were listening were all shouting Spain'...
Now she says she's gonna support whoevers winning..
