Are the days of £100m + transfers over? 12:45 - Jul 22 with 2904 views | hype313 | Seems like so many clubs are paranoid and conscious of PSR that the days of his big transfers are over, even Utd, who have been quite active have only spent £30m on a new striker, days gone by, they would've been spending 3 times that. Not that I think it is a bad thing mind.

Are the days of £100m + transfers over? on 13:22 - Jul 22 with 2704 views | Simonds92 | Are they? United have just spend £52m on an 18 Yr old CB who has never played international football. West Ham have spent £40m on a 27 year old CB who has never played for England. They seem crazy fees to me!

Big hefty fees, but not the £100m+ I outlined in the OP.

They are big fees for average or unproven players. I think the more established players would easily go for over 100m I just think that a lot of them are tied in on long contracts and clubs don't need to sell. So the majority of the time, when a top player goes, it's because they've run their contract down or are a lot older. If someone like Musiala was available we'd probably be talking £200m I think. Lots of players went for over 100 last summer.

And now those same clubs who spent £100m are now navigating choppy waters. Madrid were happy to wait it out for Mbappe's contract to run down, think we'll see similar transfers like this going forward.

Are the days of £100m + transfers over? on 14:40 - Jul 22 with 2323 views | MattinLondon | If Lamine Yamal happened to be at a small club, most of the elite European clubs would be after him and therefore that hypothetical transfer would have been massive. If Mbappe had another couple years of his contact left and if Bellingham was still in Germany, then those players would also go for a lot - more than £100m. We haven’t seen the end o TV massive transfer fees but due to other circumstances we have yet to see such fees being paid [so far] in this transfer window. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

But aren't the circumstances part of the reason the days of £100m+ transfers could be over Yamal - bigger clubs hoarding all of the young talent Bellingham - clubs moving for younger players rather than waiting for them to be in their prime Mbappe - Madrid happy to wait for his contract to have run down Just can't see another Coutinho or Dembele for a little while yet. At least until clubs have found more ways around PSR

Hull City have a buyback clause, so whilst Villa might accept an offer of £100m, in reality they'll only get paid £21.50, and they'll have to give nearly half of that to his wide boy agent for a £10 PAYG mobile top up voucher.

Are the days of £100m + transfers over? on 06:33 - Jul 23 with 1727 views | ElephantintheRoom | Over? Did you not notice Mbappe trousering 150 million € for going to Madrid a couple of months ago? There is a slight hiatus whilst English clubs work out how to cheat the system now that 8 year contracts aren’t allowed and selling hotels to yourself might be questionable. If there was a decent elite player available. I’m fairly sure some club would be happy to burn their own fingers. Not Arsenal though who are still counting the cost of spending £100 million on Rice whilst releasing Xhaka.

Are the days of £100m + transfers over? on 09:42 - Jul 23 with 1376 views | Vic | I hope so, but very much doubt it. It seems like things have eased this window, but inevitably they’ll go up again in a season or two, unless sky pull out. What is interesting though, as others have noted, is the price that pretty mediocre players are going for now. £20 - £30m for average Prem players or for up and coming Championship players. Crazy.

Are the days of £100m + transfers over? on 10:25 - Jul 23 with 1321 views | brazil1982 | Mbappe is still costing an awful amount - £12.5m / year wage plus a signing on fee of £128m over five years so he is a signing >£100m. Regardless of contract, RM would have signed him somehow, possibly with state money as before. What is more ridiculous is the transfer fees for much lower-end players; we'll see PL team subs who have cost 20-30m and not even know who they are!

He still cost €150 million Euros to sign. Mercenary players stabbing their clubs in the back are something else that needs factoring in to transfer fees. Haaland had a 50 million release clause in his contract. Thus freeing up 70 million to go in his and his dad’s back pocket.

No. Sorry. I can't see it. I must be blind. Or losing my marbles. Where's the dig at the Pride of Anglia?
