uninspired by our signings so far i know Omari is exceptional and is decent along with Greaves but i’m not feeling that confident we have under 3 weeks before the season starts and it really doesn’t look look like we’re going to have a side much better than Luton,Burnley last season i’m hoping we lucky with a few decent signings between now and the end of August ideally before the Liverpool game.

Agreed with almost all of that. With Delap we've paid £15 million which is a bit of British 'tax' i.e. you pay a bit more for homegrown.
I do think his ceiling is very high though so calculated gamble and I think he could be a beast in a year and help us this season. He's also under 21 so doesn't count on squad so I think worth paying a premium for that as well. |
I think it's quite useful to also remember to take the fee and divide it by the number of years on the contract.
15 mill sounds a lot.
But what was it a 4 year deal?

I'm generally pleased, though I'd prefer to have more business done by now. It just seems that we have done better early in windows than towards the end.
This is entirely new territory though. Our biggest successes have been out-of-contract veterans or academy products at big clubs that are aging out. We don't have the benefit of playing in a more forgiving tier anymore. | | | |

Until we see the team playing against Prem opposition week in week out it's impossible to know how we've gone and whether the side is better or worse compared to Luton and Burnley.
There are a couple of things to consider though:
- I saw a chart a couple of days ago that showed Ipswich are in the top 10 of all European top flight clubs in terms of transfer fees paid. Maybe that's related to just fishing in the English market, but I'd certainly be a lot more uninspired if I was a Leicester or Southampton fan (added to that we haven't sold any of our best players from last season)
- I can't recall if it was McKenna or Ashton right at the start of the off-season who said that the biggest issue with the back to back promotions was that we hadn't had time yet to re-establish an effective scouting system for outside of the UK (it is part of the strategic plan for this season); and therefore it was unlikely we'd be bringing in any/many players from overseas because of the risk of not really knowing the player well enough. If we stay up I would imagine we will start to see more focus on the overseas market if we've been able to build our european and african scouting network. | | | |

Proper Melonhead. If we sign a foreign national, you’ll likely never heard of him and simply give him an uptick if he comes from a reputable club. We’ve signed 5 from with the UK, 60% of those from PL clubs and you find that uninspiring. Like a lot of fans on here, you don’t really know what you want but you just want something more.
A sad indictment of the modern day football fan and the human condition really.

Uninspired is not a term that I would be using as a supporter of Ipswich Town. Off the back of double promotions, little time to build the deep squad in prep for the Championship. Meaning we’ve had to both off load those that definitely were not part of the future and been able to start the work to improve and fill gaps. I’m inspired that this club even has a go at the PL. The recruitment isn’t over, the gauge of success is not the actual players we acquire but our status in May 25 and the later valuation of players in the squad at the time.
Status
PL maintained = success
Hand in hand with play valuations
Underlying assets of the club which will hopefully increase as the season progresses and which can be sold or improved further
I’m inspired that we can even consider spending £15-20m on players. | |

To be honest, I'd be happy if we started with the same team we had end of last season. Those players gave us the best season we've had in years, and deserve a shot in the Premiership - and our loyalty. I'd rather go down in flames with them, and whoever we get in, rather do a Forest and buy 20 players just for the sake of it.

I think you are. We’ve brought the best that we can given where we are at. Outstanding work so far just short on numbers. Surprised given the clubs history with Ashton and McKenna that people are even questioning it. Still a long time to go in the window. There will be a plan, I think people just get needy for information with the way social media works these days. IMO. |

I think we've done good business so far but I do wonder where the required signings left are coming from. McKenna talks about needing "lots more" and someone on here mentioned they had heard 7/8 more the other day. That is going to require a lot of bandwidth from here on in and we've seen how drawn out deals can become with Philogene and Szmodics.
I think it is easy to say "Prem experience will come in loan deals" but that is perhaps harder in reality. You don't see many of these type of deals between Prem clubs at all. And most of the free transfers have been hoovered up now too. | | | |

Because better wheeling and dealing means we could spend more elsewhere on the players we want. Perhaps players who have proven themselves to a greater degree than Delap is.

At this moment it appears excessive compared to other signings across the board, and perhaps another sign of our foreign scouting network not being fully in place due to the speed of our progression. If Blue Monday are to be believed they think we will spend up to £120 million and it's around 60 ish at the moment. Based on that assumption we are only half way through our spend. Although one £27 million signing would take nearly half of that. The players that have gone amount to ten and so far we only have five in. So to even get back to where we were we need another five. I thought Tanaka for Fortuna was very impressive why can’t we go and put a bid to rival Leeds i’m sure we could succeed it’s not like other teams don’t do it to us hey.
There are are some right bargains in that Japanese/ Korean leagues that have come over here and impressed for Wolves last season Celtic aswell just to name two but Kieran knows what he wants that’s why he said he wanted a few more in.
