Little lunch break thread... What are the nicest/your favourite sports grounds in Suffolk? (Other than PR obvs). Have played a lot of football and cricket (plus golf if you want to include that), so have seen a lot of what the county has to offer, or at least the eastern part.
My personal favs:
Yoxford Cricket Club - small but lovely on a summer day with the view over the fields (plus its fun to aim for the trees)
Dennington Football Ground - not sure anyone plays there anymore, but has direct access to a pub garden and the village church overlooks the ground.
Woodbridge Cricket Club - Even though its in Campsea Ashe, certainly a nice spot for cricket on Ashe Park.

Southwold Cricket Club is nice.

Although one too many budgies in their team last time I played there

Lot of very nice cricket grounds in Suffolk.

Our home ground at Melton St Audry's is decent, near to us Easton, Worlingworth and Sudbourne Hall are all picturesque, but the most "village" ground surely has to be my former ground at Fishpond Meadow, Waldringfield.

Anyone else played there?

Felixstowe cricket club. Purely because I spent a lot of time there with my cousins growing up, playing cricket, football there whilst my dad was playing.

Felixstowe Golf Club - the 6 holes along the coastline are rather good.

Along with their dad! I asked him about it the other day, as it happens.

Thanks Phil, that’s a good read - apologies I missed it at the time.

If playing in the humble Tuesday evening inter firm league(don’t know if it even exists anymore as companies have dissapeared), then a game at RHS Holbrook was special. Beautifully kept, magnificent views from either end, and a thatched pub on the grounds! Don Topley and a young Reece playing.
The Co-op pitch at Wherstead was rather nice, great view of the bridge.

I used to enjoy school team matches there - a proper tea afterwards

No problem. I got the quotes but Kallum Brisset wrote it up, so how it reads wasn't down to me!

The housing estate/s plonked around Foxhall stadium

Re.Yoxford...my dear departed old man used to have an endearing name for it as did his cricket team ...*uckin yoxford and would always shout it driving through...due to it's size and trees and sixes potential.

Watched a lot of AFC Sudbury at the Kings Marsh Stadium, nice facilities overall and their academy has been producing at a prodigious rate given the clubs size

The Inter-firm very much still exists but as you say, features very few firms now

Suffolk County Council are there, BT are ARCS Phoenix and RHS Staff still enter a team, the rest are local clubs or part-time teams essentially

I've popped along to a football club based on Humber Doucy Lane a few times. Ipswich Wanderers I believe they're called... quite a quaint little ground, which has improved no end since the first time I went there... Might pop along again tomorrow night for an FA Cup replay against Thetford Town. 7.45pm kickoff...

Loved the inter firm league … I must have played for at least 4 of the teams over the 80s and 90s.. the Hollies closing was a death knell for a few teams.

Have played a lot of entertaining matches at St. Audry's over the years, both football and cricket (nice little 9 hole golf course as well), smart clubhouse too. Last time I played there I got some terrific bruises on my shins by running straight into the covers while trying to make a boundary catch. Missed our game there this year sadly.

It's improved a lot over the years, it wasn't that long ago they didn't have a roller from memory

Still 10 teams, in two leagues, in the inter firm, but as mentioned not so much in terms of firms these days. Always a good Tuesday night out although the weather this year was a bit of a disaster. I remember playing the Topleys at RHS and on a nice evening it is a stunning setting, and also hosted ‘It’s a knockout’ in the early 2000s.

I am sure a TWTDs team would be most welcome in the league next season if they fancied a ‘Nipper Lawrence’ / ‘Billy Dane’ summer football break for a bit of cricket.

Woolpit by miles, lovely ground with normally a great cricket wicket.

Other nice grounds are Sudbury, Bury, Worlington, Exning, Hadleigh, East Bergholt and Copdock.

We are lucky to have so many lovely grounds in Suffolk, unlike the Essex grounds we have to travel to like Clacton, god knows what you will find on the outfield.

Up and mainly down, following Town since 88

Yes, there's usually a team that starts in division nine that cruises through every division until they get to at least division three....this year it's Brightlingsea. Makes promotion quite a challenge.

We usually lose the odd game unexpectedly as well, but even at division six level there are enough decent individuals to be match winners and makes winning enough games to achieve promotion very difficult.

We'll keep trying though.
