Penalty taker? 17:56 - Aug 23 with 2568 viewsfranz_tyson

I don't think we've got a first choice penalty taker OR one witn a good record.

Seem to recall us missing a few. Are any of our new incomings a bit handy from the spot?

Good question. Hirst and Broadhead were the first choices and are injured. Al-Hamadi was also chosen to get off the mark at Millwall while we were comfortably winning, then missed what seemed a vital one at the time v Brizzle.

Thinking about it, it'll be interesting to see how many penalties we win this season, especially with VAR.

How many did we get in the end last season? Wasn't many was it?

3, i think. if we had var last season, it'd have been more.

however, we're not going to spend so long in the oppo's penalty box this year!

It would be very useful if we had a designated penalty taker who'd be expected to last the 90 ie. one who wouldn't be subbed.

I thought Davis would be a good candidate, but whilst he has a wand of a left foot he has a split personality when it comes to delivering crosses and shooting.

Interesting, for all his goals last season SS missed the only penalty he took.
He’s taken five in his career, and scored just two of them.

Clarke took and scored five last season.

Always surprised that we’ve not seen Davis take one in competitive action, imagine he hits a sweet penalty.

Think Chappers is first choice and he's dreadful given how cleanly he can strike a ball.

Morsy would get my vote. Nothing ever seems to faze him

Oh, but as we saw with the break last Saturday you don't need to be in the box a lot, just there suddenly and quickly and confusing the defence into a rash or mistimed tackle. I think we may actually get a fair few penalties with the speed of movement into the box we agree likely to have from all angles.

our attacking players don't tend to play the whole 90, which leaves us with morsy. could work, as stated above

Szmodics?

Although thinking about I'm sure I once read he's missed more than he has scored.

Clarke was a pen taker scored a few on his highlight reels -
Unsure how many he missed though

Chaplin's penalty kicks have looked poor when at Town & he has scored 4 & missed 5 in his pro career, which is not good enough. I hope Mckenna has a system which doesn't involve our top scorer grabbing the ball.

It was Chaplin, but he missed too many. Then it was Broadhead but he is injured. Then it was Hirst, he is injured. Then it was Kieffer Moore, he doesn’t play for us anymore.

My guess would be that if he was on the pitch Szmodics would take it. Based on nothing other than he is a very confident man and he scores goals.
